About Rae Corby:
Hey! Lovely to meet you and thanks for taking the time to read this.
I'm Rae, and I am an senior HR, People & Talent Leader, currently heading up the People function in a scaling management consultancy, operating within the UK Public Sector (Local Gov. to be exact). I am currently exploring ways we can attract, retain and develop our staff, supporting them, promoting safety and belonging so they can go and deliver impact in a very important sector. Alongside this, I manage all People Ops activities and am the lead for any employee relations queries and actions.
My background is in recruitment and talent, and more recently I’ve evolved this into a wider HR and People Operations role, with a growing focus on strategy. It’s a space that demands growth, flexibility and continuous development, and I take that seriously, ensuring I’m delivering the best possible service to senior leaders and our wider colleague community. It’s an area I am confident and credible in. I’m currently undertaking a People Partner programme to cross the Ts and dot the Is, strengthening the strategic People work I’m already delivering and deepening the foundations of my practice.
Experience
CV available on request, but in essence:
I worked Retail Management and Visual Merchandising throughout and after Uni. Working for American Apparel, Vans & New Look.
I then moved into agency recruitment within Transactional and Qualified finance, initially across the North Manchester footprint, but latterly moved across Greater and Central Manchester. This then followed a year working in Corporate Dental recruitment, covering approximately 30-40 dental roles at once.
I relocated closer to my parents, and began what has become my substantive career in Resourcing, Talent & People for a small, challenger management consultancy - Ameo. This involved contract recruitment, talent pool / network management and senior stakeholder management and interfacing to ensure we had the right people on the right programmes. Following acquisition, I was one of few team members brought into the new organisation (FutureGov - now TPXimpact), with a wider remit of developing a professional recruitment function (at scale), within a wider HR team and the management of a new way of working for the organisation - associate recruitment. This was a dual role focussing on effective workforce planning, strategic and reactive, commercially efficient resourcing from both a contract (associate) and permanent point of view, partnering with and coaching senior leaders regarding vacancies. This role also included some client facing delivery and global recruitment for a large philanthropic agency.
From then I had a short stint at a competitor agency called Olive Jar, wherein I was brought into do much of the same but with much more of a client facing, senior leadership remit. I expanded their contractor network of approx 20 into c. 100 and worked with them to onboard and mobilise new clients and programmes. I was promoted during my probation, but didn't feel like the role was suitable.
And along came Newtrality. Having worked together previously at Ameo & FutureGov, I was brought in as the second employee to build out an operations and finance function as we rapidly scaled. This moved in to a trifunctional role where I became client facing across a range of discovery and delivery projects within the org-wide space and in discreet services. Following a restructure and a recognition that to scale sustainably and thoughtfully, we needed a fully fledged and modern HR/People function, my role pivotted into one focussed on recruitment, retention, employee relations and overall people strategy. I have led the development of engagement surveys and activities, performance and competency frameworks, the development of the banding / grading structure and line management coaching & toolkits.
Being candid, what I am looking for now is an extension of the above. I want to work with a strategic People leader, that I can learn and understand best practice from, whilst having autonomy to be creative and innovative to ensure we are best serving colleagues and clients.
