About Richard Morgans:

I have been self-employed as a hotelier for the last seven years.  I have successfully owned and run a late 16th-century boutique hotel bar and restaurant, delivering outstanding food and exceptional customer service.  Sadly, we had to retire from the hospitality industry as my parents got older and needed more help.  The hospitality industry was 24/7, and it was sometimes impossible to take leave to help.

Before owning and running a hotel, I worked for Abellio, London, at the Twickenham, firstly as a driver and then as a depot driver mentor, training new and old drivers and receiving numerous commendations for excellent customer service.

I have done various jobs and businesses in the past, mainly involved with driving or driver training.  I was an approved driving instructor for 22 years and had my driving school with 13 cars working for me.  I have also done training in LGV vehicles and have vast experience in driving 40ft - 30ft articulated vehicles, drawbar work with demountable bodies, curtain-sided vehicles, boxed vehicles, general haulage and a large number of van experience.  I have done multi-drop work nationwide and have a vast knowledge of different areas.  I have always been 100% committed to delivering outstanding performance and quality of service wherever I have worked.

Experience

Home Farm Hotel, Wilmington, Honiton, Devon, EX14 9JR

It was with some regret that I left Abellio Twickenham because my wife and I were looking for a new challenge in life.  A step into the unknown, we purchased Home Farm Hotel on the 8th of July 2016; this was a 16th-century boutique-style hotel with 13 en-suite bedrooms.

With no experience running a hotel, bar or restaurant, this was a huge learning curve. However, I had much combined expertise from other industries and could pool all those combined skills.

Before purchasing the hotel, my wife and I travelled throughout the country and sometimes into Europe to provide entertainment at different venues. My wife was the singer, with three albums to her name, and I was the sound engineer for the events.

Buying the hotel would allow us to combine the entertainment on-site to host parties and events.

Our other passion was food, where we had a small restaurant with 35 covers and a bar with another dining area.

During our seven years at Home Farm Hotel, we built an excellent business with many returning hotel and restaurant customers. We were 100% driven to provide outstanding food, excellent customer service, and experience.

Sadly, we had to sell the hotel due to family health reasons and needed to restructure our lives in the future, as hospitality is a lifestyle, not a job.
