Rosie Broadley

I am a native English speaker who is currently a second year student studying a combined degree in Spanish and Geography at the university of Exeter and am seeking a role as an English Language Assistant during my year abroad in Spain starting September 2023. I have a keen interest in pursuing a future career as a secondary school teacher and am extremely enthusiastic about the Spanish language and culture. I have a CEFR level C1 in Spanish and B2 in German. I would love to teach in Spain at some point in the future. A placement in a Spanish secondary school (12-18) would be an invaluable opportunity to see the differences in the education systems between Spain and England and to experience living in Spain. I have experience teaching in a secondary school and online private tutoring. In terms of location, I'd like to live in a busy well-connected city environment during my year abroad because of the opportunities it affords for socialising, experiencing the culture, and meeting new people.

During June 2022, I spent three weeks in a secondary school as a languages teaching intern working alongside other teachers and students aged 11-16. I helped individuals on a one-to-one basis and planned, prepared and delivered GCSE Spanish lessons. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained a great insight into teaching, whilst also developing my self-confidence and communication skills with young people. During September 2022, I completed a work placement at a college for 16-18 year olds. This involved planning and preparing starter activities for A-level Geography and Spanish, marking assignments, and practicing pre-examination Spanish speaking with students. The enthusiasm of the students and their willingness to learn was highly impressive and the experience was extremely rewarding. I felt that I had a very strong classroom presence in both of these placements confirming my desire for a future career in teaching. I am currently tutoring students online in A-level Geography and GCSE Spanish. Although a different teaching format, I am enjoying creating teaching resources and lesson planning as well as marking and providing advice for exam technique.

I achieved 10 GCSEs in 2019, and in 2021 I gained three A* in A-level Spanish, Geography, and German at Woking College, UK. I'm currently studying for a BA in Spanish literature and language with geography at Exeter University and this will be obtained in 2025.
