About Rowan Buchanan:

Hey, my name's Rowan and I'm a CGI Artist with with experience in both contracted work and individual projects, which are displayed on my Artstation. My background is in the computer games industry, with an Honours degree in BSc Computer Games (Art & Animation). 

My love for 3D modelling has driven me to continually expand my knowledge through industry experience and ongoing personal projects. I'm committed to pursuing new opportunities that will further advance my career and work with a variety of artists.

My natural creativity is a driving force behind my satisfaction as a 3D artist and I'm eager to utilize my talents and help bring imaginative visions to life. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my experience and portfolio, always happy to discuss my work.

Experience

My professional work experiences listed are:

  • Working on a multi award winning show called ‘Pop Paper City’ as a Junior Lighting and Render Artist, conveying emotion and storytelling through weather effects and time of day. Highlights and depth of field were used to draw the viewers eye as well as animating light sources to add depth and diversity to particular shots within episodes.
  • Creating thousands of 3D renders for an award winning bathroom company based in Glasgow called Wholesale Domestic, working under the title of Junior CGI Artist. This role involved working from 2D CAD drawings and creating 3D replicas of products to be used as display on the company website. Renders had to be accurate and easy to read as their main purpose was to showcase the products being sold in a organised manner to make online shopping more enjoyable for users.

Education

My most relevant education achievements are:

  • Acquiring a 2:1 Honours Degree in Computer Games (Art & Animation) at Glasgow Caledonian University.
  • Being successfully selected as a mentee for Bafta Scotland's Game Mentorship which focusing on portfolio refining.
  • Successfully completing The Rookies 2023 competition and achieving a Rank C for my project.
  • Enrolling in a course on CG Master Academy focusing on Prop creation for games.
