About Ryan Appleyard:
I'm Ryan Appleyard, a British born designer focused on the user experiences and interface for mobile and desktop apps, software and websites. I have worked for a diverse range of clients, although am particularly passionate about online education, decentralised platforms and groundbreaking ideas from independent developers. I have a proven track record of quality design for projects ranging from brand identity to SQL interfacing applications.
I am a keen problem solver, having actively sought out the most efficient use of a users time for a seemless experience within applications. I value the prototyping stage very highly, as I am an avid planner and enjoy laying strong groundwork to ensure a projects success.
Experience
As a UX/UI Designer, I have worked on many projects for a variety of different clients, including charities, small businesses and the NHS. I have often worked in small teams or independently so am well versed in project management, versatile design strategies and the importance of the user experience for a ranging demographic.
I am passionate about the developing side of technology and the internet, particularly decentralised communities, independently driven education and ground breaking use of the current (and future) capabilities of digital content. I stay up to date on current design trends as well as up-and-coming tech companies.
My work has led to my deep familiariaty with Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud and given me a comprehensive insight into the capabilities of cross platform design systems. In addition to my work in design, I have single handedly developed applications, having taught myself the programming language C#, so have a keen understanding of the programming side of product development and its subsequent integration with design systems.
I am currently working on independent projects but am looking for a full time position in Zurich with a skilled team of designers who can assist in my quest to learn and grow as a designer.
Education
I achieved my BA(hons) in Fine Art from the University of Brighton in 2020, complemented my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design, where I maintained a strong focus on the philosophy of aesthetics, honing my skills in design oriented problem solving.
I also have Google Certification in UX Design, which developed my knowledge of user centric design, comprehensive methods of research and considerations of accessibility, as well as giving me a clear insight into the industry standards of UX/UI, and the importance of user retention.
I am intimately familiar with Figma and have been using Adobe Creative Cloud products for over 10 years. With that said, I am always eager to develop and build on my current knowledge, and expand my skills into unfamiliar territory.
