About Samuel Golc:

I am a qualified Art Psychotherapist with a full HCPC accreditation. My training was primarily psychodynamic. However, through my practice, I have gained knowledge of various other therapeutic approaches, such as CBT and Client-centred Therapy. I have undergone numerous CPD pieces of training, such as Gestalt Therapy, Transpersonal Psychology, and Shadow Work. I constantly strive to expand my knowledge and practice of therapy.

Working as a clinician at Harrow Horizons allowed me to engage with a diverse client population, including Looked After children and young people who experienced trauma and abuse. The age of clients varied from five- to eighteen-year-olds. This role has also allowed me to build on my non-clinical skills, such as managing workload and diary, liaising with clients’ families, schools, and other professionals, and line-managing a volunteer clinician.

I have broad experience working with children and young people with mental health issues, emotional problems, and learning difficulties. In my post at Harrow Horizons and previous therapeutic roles, I have consistently demonstrated the ability to practice in a safe and professional manner. I always strive to provide the best service tailored to the client's needs. I enjoy working as part of a team and have a keen interest in supervision and research. I enjoy sharing my insights and knowledge with colleagues and learning from their experience and use of various therapeutic modalities.

During the Covid19 crisis, I quickly and efficiently adjusted my practice and the manner of work and found creative solutions to different issues as they emerged. In my practice, I have consistently met high standards in maintaining client records, formulating safety plans, carrying out assessments, and handling sensitive information while communicating with various individuals involved in clients’ care.

Some of the skills and abilities I have demonstrated in my role as a clinician at Harrow Horizons include • Creative problem-solving • Recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns • Flexible approach to therapy and work in general • Sensitivity to clients’ and co-workers’ individual needs and differences • Sharing knowledge and learning from others • High level of organization • Managing workload and working to the deadlines with efficiency • Ability to work on multiple cases and tasks at the same time • Calm and contained disposition when facing stressful situations • Working well under pressure • Ability to record and present information accurately and concisely • Ability to work in collaboration with multiple agencies and with complex cases • Contributing to peer supervision and line-managing a volunteer Besides these, I enjoy working as part of a team and on my initiative. I am a reliable and emphatic person with a friendly attitude, a positive outlook on life, and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Experience

I have broad experience working with children and young people with mental health issues, emotional problems, and learning difficulties. In my post at Harrow Horizons and previous therapeutic roles, I have consistently demonstrated the ability to practice in a safe and professional manner. I always strive to provide the best service tailored to the client's needs.

Before qualifying as a therapist, I have been working in education (primary and secondary mainstream schools and special needs schools). This experience helped me to gain an understanding of the school dynamics and problems faced by children and young people.

I have experience working collaboratively with families and other professionals. I enjoy working as part of a team and have a keen interest in supervision. I enjoy sharing my insights and knowledge with colleagues and learning from their experience and use of various therapeutic modalities.

In my role as a clinician at Harrow Horizons, I have demonstrated the ability to manage a caseload of clients, including assessments and Enhanced School Service assignments. I have been able to organize my dairy efficiently and work simultaneously on diverse tasks while meeting deadlines. I have been able to quickly and efficiently readjust my practice and the manner of work during the Covid19 crisis and find creative solutions to different issues as they emerged. In my practice, I have consistently utilized safeguarding procedures, often in complex cases involving multiple agencies. The role has helped me to expand my understanding and response to the issues of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. It has also allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of the CSSO model. Another aspect of the work in which I consistently met high standards was maintaining records of the clients, formulating safety plans and risk assessments, and handling sensitive information while communicating with various individuals involved in clients’ care. The post allowed me to get a detailed understanding of Harrow Horizons' service within the context of Barnardo’s and other mental health provisions operating in the borough.

Education

I am a qualified Art Psychotherapist with a full HCPC accreditation. My training was based on psychodynamic thinking and, among other approaches, including elements of attachment and object-relations theories. In my post at Harrow Horizons and previous therapeutic roles, I have gained knowledge of various other therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Client-cantered Therapy. I have undergone numerous CPD pieces of training, which include Level 3 courses in Mindfulness-based CBT, Gestalt Therapy, Transpersonal Psychology, and Shadow Work, as well as many shorter courses. I constantly strive to expand my knowledge and practice of therapy.

Working as a clinician at Harrow Horizons presented me with an opportunity to engage with a diverse client population, which required of me a flexible approach and constant learning. The CSSO model proved a useful framework for addressing clients’ diverse presentations and needs in a short-term intervention.

The clinician role has also allowed me to build on my non-clinical skills; such as managing workload and diary, using IT, and leasing with clients’ families, schools, and other professionals. The post gave me an insight into multi-agency work and policies pretraining safeguarding and data protection.
