About Sara-mae Martin:

I have a vast amount of experience of working with children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma. My approach to working with individuals is always through a trauma-informed lense.
I adopt a creative, person centred approach, so that I am able to meet the individual exactly where they are and draw upon knowledge and skills to offer an individual therapeutic tool kit, which may include psycho-education, art, music, somatic movement, trauma-informed yoga therapy, mindfulness, relaxation and much more. My approaches are also laced with a reconnection to nature.
I take time to build a secure, therapeutic relationship, inviting playfulness, curiosity, understanding and compassion, which opens up a door to the client’s own understanding, accepting, emotional regulation and management of their trauma responses.
This work is my passion and derives not only from knowledge educationally, but from my own personal experiences.
I feel that I would be able to offer the service users a sense of light and authenticity through my therapeutic approach.
I have a passion to grow, continue to gain more knowledge and to develop the skills I already acquire.
From a practical point, my many years of professional experience has provided me with skills of working alongside professionals, being party to care plans, recommendations for assessments, (neuro-diversity, speech & language therapists, mental health services, EHCP processes etc).

Experience

A trauma therapist, practitioner, trainer and mentor.

I offer support to children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma, attachment issues and trauma related conditions.

The support I offer provides understanding of trauma and how it may present within an individual. My work is based upon an understanding of trauma (from the work of Bessel Van De Kolk, Gabor Mate, Deb Dana, Daniel Siegal, The ACE’s) and many other reputable trauma informed pioneers and resources.

The work I deliver to individuals and groups can be in the form of talk therapy, creative therapy, psycho-education around trauma, mindfulness and yoga therapy techniques. Everything I offer is person centered and therefore trauma-informed practices that are tailored to the individual’s needs.

In addition, I am a lead tutor for Trauma-Informed Training for Yoga Teachers and affiliated with Trauma Therapy Manchester. The course offers a knowledge and practical approaches of how to deliver a three phase approach to trauma recovery. Both during and following the course, I also mentor students

Education

Working with young people aged 5 to 10 within primary school settings across Warwickshire, offering emotional support, emotional regulation techniques through creative therapy. My role requires me to work with selected children who have experienced trauma through domestic abuse, grief and loss, looked after care, illness and more.  BACP equivalent recognition.
