About Sarah-Jane Morrison:
I am currently a Band 6 Senior Mental Health Nurse working in a Specialist Community Mental Health Team. I have been qualified as a nurse for 13 and have been in my currently role for 5 years.
I am a Clozapine lead for my locality, manage a small complex case load, support student nurses, Preceptor newly qualified nurse and provide monthly supervisions to a group of colleagues.
I am passionate about advocating for my patients and providing the best care possible to enhance their quality of life in the community.
Experience
I used to specialise in dementia care until approximately 5 years ago, where I worked for a significant amount of time in a complex needs dementia hospital. The gentleman on the ward had a primary diagnosis of either Schizophrenia or Bi-Polar, with a secondary diagnosis of dementia and most where detained under the Mental Health Act.
Before entering into my dementia role, I worked for 3 years as a palliative care nurse for people with complex mental health and dementia needs, which I found fulfilling being able to provide people a good death while making sure they had all their mental and physical health needs met.
In my current role I have specialist in Treatment resistant Schizophrenia and am the lead in running the community Clozapine clinic in my locality.
As well as running my clinics, I am the lead assessor for my team and provide comprehensive assessments to determine the needs of people after being referred to ourselves. I work alongside an extensive MDT to and provide a holistic approach to care planning and risk assessing, making sure that all patients receive the best care possible to improve their quality of life.
As a senior clinician in my team, I supervise a number of colleagues, am a Preceptor for newly qualified nurses and mentor student nurses.
Education
I have been a qualified mental health nurse since 2013 and continue to develop my role with trainings often provided by the NHS. I trained as a nurse with the University of Sterling (Highland Campus), where i graduated with a BSc in Mental Health Nursing. I also completed an add on degree in Sexua Health while completing my nurse training to increase the level of qualification I graduated with.
In 2025 I completed a 3 day STORM training and have also completed the Level 2 Oliver McGowan Autism training, to enhance the skills I continue to develop with annual e-learnings and on the job experience.
I have worked for the Essex Partnership University Trust since February 2021 in a Band 6 position.
