Saumya Priya

I am an experienced academician with over 8 years of research and teaching experience in English Literature. I am willing to relocate to the UK now.

Currently, I am working as an Independent Researcher, collaborating with Professor Tomas Jungert from Lund University, Sweden. My research project “Coping with Climate Change” tries to study the attitude of readers in relation to climate change in fiction and non-fiction. This pilot project is in its final stage of data collection which was carried out through an online survey. I am also a passionate teacher with over six years of University teaching experience. Before relocating to Europe, I was a Lecturer in the Department of English, at Patna Women’s College, India. In this role, I had the opportunity to teach various courses in areas of American literature, British Literature, Postcolonial Literature, and Critical and Cultural Theories. Furthermore, over the years, I have gained skills not only in classroom teaching but also in designing and implementing new courses along with supervising research projects of the undergraduate and post-graduate students. I have also been actively involved in evaluating and mentoring students from different walks of life. I enjoy helping students to develop a love and understanding of the subject through teaching strategies that address varied learning preferences.

I have a Ph.D from the Department of English Language and Literature, Patna University, India. My thesis is entitled “Characters in Prequels and Sequels of Novels: A Psychoanalytic Study with special reference to Jean Rhys, Lin Haire-Sargeant, Alexandra Ripley, Greg Mathews”. This research is based on a comparative study of the classics like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Gone with the Wind and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to their respective prequels and sequels namely, Wide Sargasso Sea, H. The Story of Heathcliff’s Journey Back to Wuthering Heights, Scarlett and The Further Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. In addition to psychoanalytic theory, other theories like feminism, post-colonialism, and gender studies also find application in my doctoral research. The research also brings to fore the numerous differences and similarities found in the character portrayal, since the selected novels are all allographic forms of literary continuations. In a nutshell, this interdisciplinary research endeavour has provided me a deep understanding of a wide range of topics such as gender and society, crisis and identity formation, neurosis, and personality disorder. Thus, it gave me an insight not only into areas of Anglophone literature but also acquainted me with various aspects of social and behavioural psychology. My research works have successfully resulted in publications in book chapters and conference papers.
