About Shadia Nassor:
As a recent graduate with a Masters' degree in Social Work from Dundee University, I am excited to begin my career by making a positive impact on the lives of children and families. My passion for helping others, combined with my strong academic background, makes me an ideal candidate for this role.
During my time at Dundee University, I completed my advanced skills simulated practice learning placement, which involved working with complex cases through case studies. I managed to plan, do risk assessments, investigate the needs of an individual and the different legislations which applied to different case scenarios. I learnt to manage my time and meet up all the
deadlines. My final placement was at West Lothian council within the family placement team. Whilst here, I was responsible for undertaking foster carers assessments and offering support services to maintain the placement. Part of this included information gathering, and sharing with my line manager, to discuss any concerns/risks/vulnerabilities, in order to inform the assessment process and apply the least restrictive intervention in the first instance. I effectively managed my caseload, throughout this placement. I have undertaken supervision meetings, attended child planning meetings, undertaken planning agreements, completed Coram F forms assessments, kinship assessments, permeance assessments and completed fee forms. I am assured in my capacity to work within a multi-disciplinary team, such as school, health & housing, police & mental health services, using effective information sharing to create positive outcomes. This of course, whilst keeping with the individual at the heart of my practice, and promoting safety, wellbeing, and independence. An example of such was achieved in one of my cases, where I undertook a permanence assessment for foster carers. This process involved me working in partnership with the child and family to make informed choices about their assessment. In addition, a strength-based approach was also implemented by placing the child's needs at the center and develop an action plan to achieve their individual needs.
With regards to my assessment skills, within placement, I carried out high-quality assessments/reports using assessment, analysis, action, and review, which identified positive outcomes and solutions for all individuals experiencing different life-circumstances. I have an excellent working knowledge of the impact of various social issues on family functioning financially, emotionally, and physically), and understand the impact of caring for young people who have complex needs. I am also able to acknowledge the need for age and stage appropriateness with communication and utilise this during conversations where I am gathering information.
In addition, I have an in-depth understanding of relevant legislations and frameworks such as; The Promise, National Outcomes and legislations like Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968, Foster Children (Scotland) act 1984 , Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act 2007, Children (Scotland) Act 1995, Children (Scotland) Act 2020, Children’s Hearing (Scotland) Act 2011.
