About Shamim Turner:

I hope that you are doing well.  I am writing regarding the position of Executive Assistant.

The reason for my interest in the position and the organisation is two-fold, as firstly, I am a career Executive Assistant and I have always enjoyed all my roles and secondly, I am passionate about this sector. My most recent role was a contract working for the CEO at Freedom from Torture. I am available immediately.

As an Executive Assistant I bring with me over 30 years’ experience working on a 1:1 basis but also supporting various boards and the wider teams/direct reports.  I have also supported the CEO, CFO, IT Director, HR Director, and Business Development Director in a previous temporary role.  At the IRC, I supported on all elements of the UK, Sweden and German board and committees (I supported in the inception of the Germany and Sweden boards).  As part of my role, I was responsible for the new board chairs and members inductions (which included organising inductions, governance and providing an updated induction pack).  As board liaison I was responsible for all aspects of board meetings and committees that include producing all documents and ensuring that they are circulated well in advance to all attendees.  I have taken minutes and action points at all board and committee meetings.  This also included all other senior level meetings.  I was the first point of contact for all board chairs and members.

In each of my roles I have been a gatekeeper to the office, and I have managed all external and internal enquiries and used my initiative in either responding myself or directing to the relevant person or department.  I have always acted as an ambassador for the person that I work for and the organisation, both externally and internally.  I have strong experience in organising events and have been responsible in all aspects to ensure that they run smoothly and within budget.

I have demonstrated excellent communication skills both verbally and in written form, by drafting email responses, proofreading annual reports and all other documents.  I have produced presentations, documents and spreadsheets in each of my roles and have extensive experience in this area.

As the key person in the relevant office, I have ensured that deadlines are set on briefing papers and documents and worked closely with teams.  I have always ensured that my relevant line manager, department or board are fully prepared before attending any meeting.  I thrive on being organised.  I have been responsible for ensuring all new members of the team and direct reports have a full induction and that all the relevant aspects such as HR and IT requirements are taken care of.

I can build strong relationships and rapport across organisation's and with external key stakeholders.  I treat every person that I meet or communicate with, with the same respect, and I believe that is how you build strong relationships. I believe that coupled with my extensive experience as an Executive Assistant and my passion for this sector, I could be an asset in this role as I have a strong work ethic, I am reliable and approachable.

I look forward to hearing back from you and I would truly welcome the opportunity to meet/discuss this role further with you.
