Shay Weiss

With over 25 years of experience in product development across software, hardware, and integrated systems, I bring a well-rounded and deeply technical perspective to industrial automation and user experience design. My career has consistently blended invention with implementation—designing, building, and refining systems that bridge the physical and digital worlds.

For the past decade, I have focused extensively on UI/UX design and research. I specialize in developing professional and intuitive user interfaces, often creating tools on my Mac to bypass the limitations of conventional HMI/SCADA environments. This has proven invaluable in creating systems that are both functional and user-centric.

I have over five years of hands-on experience with Siemens S5 and S7 systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, drives, web servers, and PLC data logging. I maintain a fully operational Siemens environment at home—including a PLC, HMI, drive, and SCADA setup—which allows me to continuously test, learn, and refine solutions. My expertise extends to Siemens fail-safe systems and the Profisafe protocol, reinforcing my capability to handle high-integrity, safety-critical applications.

My domain experience includes four years in water and wastewater treatment automation, where I developed systems from the ground up, and a year working on cooling automation and complex conveyor systems with tension control—all built entirely on Siemens platforms. In addition to Siemens, I have worked with Rockwell Allen-Bradley systems (including legacy SL500 and Logix5000 platforms) and have some experience with Mitsubishi PLCs. I’ve also developed medium-sized projects using InTouch and iFIX (v5.9) SCADA systems.

Siemens remains my comfort zone and daily working environment, but I pride myself on being platform-agnostic when needed, always learning and adapting to deliver robust, scalable, and user-friendly automation solutions
