About Sophie Hubbard:
My name is Sophie and I am currently a student, studying Animal Management (Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma) at Central Bedfordshire College In Dunstable. I have a key interest in the welfare of animals and am eager to pursue a career in veterinary science. I have grown up in an environment surrounded by animals, so much so that my family and I now have 2 cats, with 2 more soon on the way, a rabbit as well as a number of fish. Whilst I am on the road to gaining the qualifications I require, I am working at Asda, gaining crucial work experience and developing my skills. However, this is simply a stepping stone and thus I am eager to broaden my skill set and gain essential work experience in the animal world.
Experience
Since July 2021, I have been employed as a store assistant at Asda in Dunstable. By working in a retail establishment I have gained experience and essential skills that will be vital in future careers. This incudes working in customer service and ensuring that I use communication skills to provide a professional response to a customer's needs. My current job has also allowed me to experience working as part of a large team as well as working individually. This involves competent organizational skills and time management to ensure certain deadlines are met.
I have also been responsible for staff training and helping new store colleagues settle into their roles. I believe it is important to be a good listener and demonstrate empathy towards both customers and colleagues. Developing a positive relationship with my colleagues has helped me grow in confidence and supported me in developing my interpersonal skills.
Education
- I acquired 7 GCSE's and 2 BTEC qualifications whilst studying at Lealands High School which include: Biology Grade 7, Physics Grade 6, Chemistry Grade 6, Maths Grade 7, Geography Grade 8, English Language Grade 6 (spoken language merit), English Literature Grade 6, Dance level 2 Merit, Hospitality and Catering Level 2 Distinction.
- Due to my interest in Animal welfare, I am currently entering my second year of studying Animal Management (Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma) at Central Bedfordshire College In Dunstable. The course allows me to obtain the relevant knowledge needed to care and ensure that all animals are kept in suitable environments that meet certain requirements as well as gaining practical experience. This was done through animals being brought into the classroom and attending a weekly work experience session at Ark Farm in Bedford
