About Stephen Hill:
As an experienced and innovative educator with over 15 years of international and UK-based teaching and leadership, I bring a proven record of academic excellence, strategic curriculum design, and inclusive education to sixth form and pre-university environments. My professional journey has been driven by a core belief: that ambitious teaching, high expectations, and compassionate leadership can transform educational outcomes—and lives.
I currently serve as Course Manager for History and Politics at Strode College, Somerset, where I lead the academic direction and operational delivery of A Level provision. Alongside my responsibilities for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and Oxbridge mentoring, I also lecture in Undergraduate History (Levels 4 and 5). My role combines rigorous curriculum leadership with student-centred strategies for progression and enrichment. The outcomes speak for themselves: high retention, excellent A*-B performance, and several successful Oxbridge and Russell Group candidates.
Prior to this, I spent seven years as Head of Humanities and EPQ Lead at King Richard School in Cyprus, part of the MOD Schools network. There, I oversaw History, Geography, RE, and Politics across Key Stages 3–5, designed interdisciplinary initiatives, and delivered CPD as part of whole-school improvement. Working with a culturally diverse and mobile student body, I developed a flexible, inclusive approach that maintained high academic standards while also supporting wellbeing and adaptability.
My academic foundations are strong: I hold an MSc in History (Merit) from the University of Edinburgh, where I researched the role of Loyalist politics in the Northern Ireland peace process, and a BA in History from the University of Ulster, with a focus on political and global historical narratives. These qualifications underpin my passion for historical scholarship and my ability to teach across a wide range of topics—from conflict and ideology to empires and decolonisation.
I am also a trained middle leader (NPQML) and a member of professional bodies including the Historical Association, Political Studies Association, and NACE. I thrive in environments where innovation meets ambition, and I am now seeking to bring my skills and experience to a forward-thinking international school—particularly one where academic rigour, student voice, and global citizenship are valued.
Outside the classroom, I’m a keen runner, cyclist, and audiobook enthusiast. I believe great teachers never stop learning—and I’m always looking for the next challenge that allows me to lead, teach, and inspire.
Experience
I am an experienced and dynamic educator with over 15 years of teaching History and Politics across Key Stages 3 to 5, with a proven track record of academic success and curriculum leadership. I currently serve as Course Manager for History and Politics at Strode College, Somerset, where I also teach Undergraduate History at Levels 4 and 5. My teaching consistently secures outstanding outcomes, with over 80% A–B grades in A-Level History and Politics (2024), and successful student progression to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.
Earlier in my career, I taught in Essex for five years, followed by an overseas post at King Richard School in Cyprus, where I held the role of Head of Humanities Faculty. I also led EPQ supervision, ran a Model United Nations programme, and contributed to whole-school leadership. During my time in Cyprus, I completed a Master’s Degree in History from the University of Edinburgh.
A qualified teacher with QTS and PGCE, I combine strong academic subject knowledge with experience in curriculum design, pastoral care, and enrichment. I am now seeking to bring this expertise to a new challenge in a high-performing sixth form or international school, with a focus on academic excellence, student development, and global citizenship.
