The Home Office - 2 years
Senior Technical Delivery Manager DDaT

  • SAS (Shared Application Services) Was an initiative that came out of The Government Digital Service (GDS) and Home Office who set up a cross-government working group to share best practice. One of the outcomes of this was the creation of a centrally managed software-as-a-service, standardising the schema for form building, setting up design communities for form based digital services, and helping smaller organisations by pairing them with larger bodies that have expertise in the area. SAS Moving to Scale - was formed using those principles.
  • Working with the Principal Engineer for Police Public Protection Technology, this meant refining programme requirements within PPPT adhering to stringent policies, building teams, transitioning and then transformation of multi million pounds programmes/services within the DDaT profession employing the GDS principles, onboarding and then transitioning to business as usual (BAU). Bringing these applications in-house, to achieve cost saving, retention of skilled engineers and knowledge. Interviewing candidates, shortlisting and presenting to the portfolios.
  • Building and coaching multi-functional teams in using Agile methodology and delivery management practices, throughout the full product lifecycle, leading stand ups and sprint planning.
  •  Ensure clear risk/issue management and use operational problem-solving skills in a complex IT ecosystem. Supporting and motivating stakeholders/team to set the pace, ensuring delivery commitments are on track.
  • Employing integrated delivery plans and POAP to identify delivery dependencies, resource planning, track progress, mitigate blockers, constraints and manage the RAID logs. Procurement reviewing suppliers contracts and terms of engagement to make sure successful knowledge transfer and a safely managed seeding of resources to take place. Excellent communication skills, reviewing and editing of HLD/LLD

 

  • Tooling - Delivery Convergence on various projects using the GDS principles throughout with common tooling and user centered design, from secure Mobile Device Management on Apple Endpoints to meet engineering use cases, evaluating testing and migration to a VDI compute virtual developer device hosted in AWS. Working with Technical Architect and Partner providers ensuring deliverables are met against SOW/Work Package milestones have been successfully completed UAT passed, then validating the work. Putting GitHub on an enterprise footing, adding the missing tools which will give visibility across our code source estate.
  • Slack Migration to Enterprise Grid, establishing Slack on a governed footing, improving core pipeline integration and development work, Atlassian Suite renewal working with Commercial and Finance partners. Presenting projects to Technical Design Authority (TDA), to ensure Programme delivery, and running workshops enabling governance across projects. Working closely with Enterprise Services and Service Architecture Design to ensure a smooth transition to target state dening and delivering the TOM, POCs and MVPs.

The Department for Work and Pensions - 7 Years

End User Computing Design and Delivery Lead
Project Manager - Secure MDM End User Computing Platform

  • The project was The Universal Credit Digital Service, an Exemplar project, a prototype service built by the Government Digital Service (GDS) and DWP.
  •  Initial engagement was a Secure Endpoint solution for deployment to Java development teams on a high prole UK Government Project.
  • Collaborated with UK Government Security Agency NCDS and JAMF to develop an Endpoint security strategy for the enterprise level infrastructure on a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) platform.
  • This included the build pipeline with JAMF, hardened image deployments, and new backend server solutions that included a migration of OpenDirectory to MS Active Directory.
  • Constructed an agile and responsive team to meet the 24/7 dynamics of the critical business requirements . This was later used as a template to deliver an enterprise solution for the Department. Part of the Department's goal to be cloud centric, managing the migration of the oce based infrastructure to AWS, working closely with security, network and DevOps teams and the application vendors to nalise a security accredited and design authority approved architecture.
  • Key responsibility included the security of the Apple Mac endpoints infrastructure. This entailed implementing risk, audit and asset registers for the project that were later rolled out into the wider department. As a result this identied the need for stronger multi factor authentication.
  • Planned and implemented the rollout of Jira and Confluence to enable the collaboration between development, product, and research teams. This was a key deliverable for the project. Later rollouts included Oce 365, Mattermost, and MS Teams / Slack. The Office 365 deployment included the multi-factor Okta solution. All deployments underwent extensive UAT, security and business testing. Clear objectives were set for the team using agile and scrum methodologies.
  • Stakeholder Management, to take an initial pilot project to a UK wide programme across the whole department.
  • Signicant time was spent developing vendor management and procurement relationships. This ensured cost effective infrastructure and support contracts for the Department.
  • Developed in house training materials and courses that were later deployed across the department.
  • Provided one to one onboarding process for new users who were converting from Windows to Mac OS X.
  • Delivered a complete MDM solution for Apple OS X end user devices. This integrated into the Linux andWindows backend estate and became an ‘Exemplar’ project for the department.
  • Adapted the project support model for the Covid pandemic by expanding capacity to meet the working from home requirements.

Microsoft/Skype - 2 Years

Operations Lead for Skype EMEA London office.

  • Stakeholder Management - Activities C Level reporting and planning and implementation of projects across the company.
  • Vendor Management: Budgeting, procurement of over £1 million of equipment annually, asset and inventory management, negotiating SLAs for hardware and software support.
  • On-boarding of Skype workforce to Microsoft, including Rollout to Win7 devices for 300+ users accounts and data migration moving from LDAP to Active Directory. Successfully delivered a PC Refresh rollout to Win8 touch screen devices, for over 2000+ users, using USMT and MDT.
  • Implemented ISO 27001 security standard to protect assets, source code in the multi platform oce environment (Linux/Windows/Android/OSX/IOS/Blackberry).
  • Deployed Conuence and Jira to enable project collaboration across the Skype business units. This enabled a fluid and agile environment for the business to expand and succeed.
  • Transitioning Team from Waterfall to Agile methodology. Scrum master CSM for Ops.
  • Managed AudioVisual conferencing, product testing and development for the global multi-site team collaboration.
