Seeking for a position in Research and development, production and supply chain.
Experience
My professional experience in biotechnology has been multifaceted, with a primary focus on downstream processing, fermentation, and microbiology. At Sigma Aldrich-Merck, as an Analyst Trainee, I managed the controlled production and packaging of oligonucleotides, which are crucial in various biotechnological applications. My responsibilities included operating robotic oligo synthesizers, liquid handling machines, and performing high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to ensure the purity and quality of the final products. This role required meticulous attention to detail and adherence to strict quality control protocols, ensuring that every batch met the required standards.
During my internship at Biocon Ltd, I gained substantial hands-on experience with both upstream and downstream processes in the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). I worked on scaling up production from lab-scale to industrial-scale, learning the complexities involved in maintaining consistency and quality during the transition. My role included extensive collaboration with the Process Intensification team, where I documented and recorded experimental findings accurately. Additionally, I worked with the Quality Control team to assess the purity of API samples using advanced analytical techniques such as HPLC and gas chromatography (GC), ensuring the final products were free from contaminants. In downstream processing (DSP), I was involved in various critical steps including centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, and purification processes to isolate and refine the desired product from the crude mixture.
At Bio Plus Life Science Pvt Ltd, I worked on a project focused on the extraction of essential oils from sweet basil leaves. This involved using steam distillation and solvent extraction methods, followed by analysis using gas chromatography. My role also included performing microbial analysis on the extracts, where I tested them against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. This experience broadened my understanding of chromatographic techniques and enhanced my skills in microbial analysis, critical for ensuring the safety and efficacy of bioproducts.
Throughout these roles, I have developed a strong foundation in microbial and production processes. I have become proficient in conducting laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and interpreting results. My experience with fermentation processes includes preparing fermentation media, operating bioreactors, and using analytical equipment like HPLC and GC. I have also honed my skills in aseptic techniques, ensuring that all procedures are conducted in a sterile environment to prevent contamination.
These diverse experiences have equipped me with a comprehensive skill set in biotechnology, particularly in areas related to fermentation, downstream processing, and microbiology. I am well-prepared to advance my career in the life sciences industry, leveraging my expertise to contribute to research and development in industrial biotechnology and microbiology.
Education
I am a biotechnology graduate currently pursuing a Master of Science in Biotechnology at the University of Nottingham, where I am enhancing my expertise in advanced molecular methods, antibody biotechnology, and bioprocessing. My bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Anna University, India, provided me with a strong foundation in microbiology, molecular biology, and biopharmaceutical technology. I have gained practical experience through internships at Biocon Ltd and Sigma Aldrich-Merck, where I worked on the production and quality control of API products, learning both upstream and downstream processes. My academic and professional experiences have equipped me with skills in PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA extraction, HPLC, and bioreactors, preparing me for a career in the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
