My personality, tact, professional competence, and readiness empowers me to lead in the fast pace and ever-changing environment of the Port and Maritime Sector.  The great measure of discipline, efficiency, and morals that I possess have enabled me to be successful in all my endeavours and allows me to maintain my position in this environment.  As a self-motivated individual my intuition has been an asset in my development and led me to continually seek self-improvement so that I can be an asset to those that are dependent on me for support.  My confidence in my ability to add to any corporation is not idealistic, rather my educational background, work experiences along with the exceptional recommendations by my superiors will attest to my competency.

Experience

Coast Guard – 2004 – Present

My current position as a Leading Rating in the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard has afforded me the privilege to train and teach new aspiring sailors at the Recruiting Center of the Coast Guard.  The support I lend to my seniors extends beyond supervising juniors as I currently assist the Legal Department in amending the policies and regulations of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.

  

The following are some of my daily duties as well as experience that I have gained from my tenure.

  • Research and implementation of international laws, policies, and regulations for the Coast Guard as per international maritime and military standards.
  • Border and coastline patrols of both Trinidad and Tobago,
  • Arrange and supervise duties daily for the ratings under my charge and give a status report to the Officer of the day.
  • Ensure that daily schedules are accurate and presented to the Officer of the day.
  • Assist Chief Petty Officer and Petty Officer to conduct training exercises involving the Junior Ratings.
  • Ascertain and highlight any grievance, concerns, or recommendations of the rating under my charge to my seniors. 
  • Prepare documents concerning matters of very sensitive nature and requests. 
  • Store, preserve and package small arms for transit.  Test and zero (align) all weapon in the Coast Guard.
  • Issue and receive weapons and ensure its usability. 
  • Issue and receive ammunition.

 

  • March 01, 2009, I was attached to the Marine Ship Safety and Port Facility Security Unit (MSSPFSU) where I was trained in the capacity of a Port Facility Security Inspector.
  • My job was to ensure that Port Facilities adhere to, implement, and test the security measure stated in their security plan as mandated in the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code. 
  • Monitor security drills and exercises prevention, emergency response, consequence management and advise PFSOs on ISPS code related issues. 
  • As a Port Inspector I was part of a team that ensured that all Port Facilities with deficiencies related to outstanding infrastructure, development and training concerning the ISPS requirements that the TTCG and the PF agreed upon are completed in a timeline agreed to by the Port Facility.
  • I was also required to prepare documents, to be presented to my superiors, concerning each port that was inspected inclusive of adherence to regulations and any deviations encountered and the recommendations given.
  • March 2007 to April 2007 I was deployed to St. Kitts and Antigua for the regional security project for cricket world cup 2007. My duties entailed assistance for piloting Cruise Ships into harbours to come alongside the jetty.

 

  • September 2004, I was part of the team that gave assistance to Grenada by transporting food, water, and explosives.  We also assisted in the cleaning up of the island.
