Tamunoemi Okougbo

My name is Tamunoemi Mildred Okougbo (Emi for short). I have 7years experience working as a Geophysicist. I have an MSc. Degree in Exploration Geophysics and a BSc. Degree in Industrial Physics.

Asides my technical experience in Geophysics, I also participate in other extracurricular activities. I belong to a church singing group, where I am the leader. Here we rehearse songs twice a week and perform on Sundays. I also participate in various charity works, such as feeding and clothing orphans and less privileged every quarter. I am also safety conscious and was a member of the Loss Prevention Team during my time at Schlumberger (SLB). Also, while at SLB, I helped with numerous tasks, including budgets, schedules, social activities, etc.

I joined Schlumberger (SLB) between 2016 and 2020. Starting off as a Field Geophysicist, I worked on one of the then elite vessels WesternGeco Tasman vessel in Gulf of Mexico. This was an Ocean Bottom Cable Q-seabed vessel. I worked with the team implementing data processing sequences from navigation merge production to post stack time migration workflows. I also assisted in the intensive seismic data quality assurance liaising directly with the department chiefs, regional technical support and the various clients. 

In 2020, I also worked offshore on Shearwater Geoservices vessel on one of the leading technologies, Isometrix project in Gambia and Senegal waters. I worked as one of the infield processing geophysicists on the acquired Isometrix data, merging the acquired multi-component (P, Az and Ay) seismic data with positioning data.

Upon making a transition from field to office geophysicist, I was among the few chosen by the management to be trained in one of the strategic depth imaging technologies, full waveform inversion (FWI), designed to build high resolution and robust velocity models to address increasing seismic imaging challenges and meet clients’ demands for depth imaging solutions. I worked with imaging experts on a deep offshore ocean bottom node survey as well as shallow marine data to build velocity model for subsurface imaging. This was notably a very successful project.

In 2021, I joined the National Oil Company, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation as a Seismic data processing geophysicist where I am currently working. I have a unique ability to approach solutions in innovative ways by consulting recent publications and journals. In my growing expertise in depth imaging, I presented two papers in one of the prestigious conferences - The Regional Geo-Solutions Conference, on earth model building and seismic bandwidth extension over a deep offshore block in Gulf of Guinea, offshore Nigeria. 

I have an MSc. Degree in Exploration Geophysics from the University of Leeds UK (2014 - 2015), and a BSc. Degree in Industrial Physics - Applied Geophysics option, from Covenant University Nigeria (2008 - 2012).
