Vanessa Mullarkey

I am writing to express my interest in teaching opportunities. I am a
dedicated and enthusiastic Primary Teacher currently in my second year of teaching at Oaklands
Primary Academy in Biggin Hill, UK. I currently teach Year 1, having previously taught Year 2 and
covered a full Summer Term in Year 4. These varied experiences have strengthened my
understanding of the primary curriculum and how to nurture both the academic and emotional
growth of young learners.

My teaching philosophy centres on a holistic approach. I treat each child as an individual,
celebrating their unique interests and strengths to build genuine connections and a love for
learning by creating a rich, varied curriculum with opportunities for children to explore and learn
through experiences.

Before qualifying as a teacher, I gained a solid foundation as a Teaching Assistant, supporting
pupils with challenging behaviour and helping those who required additional guidance to access
learning. This experience has given me a deep understanding of the importance of adaptation,
patience, and positive relationships in fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom
environment.

Before my teaching career, I also spent three years working in a games development studio in an
operational capacity. This experience was invaluable for my professional growth — it taught me
how to organise my time effectively, prioritise tasks, collaborate within diverse teams, and
remain calm under pressure. I believe this combination of creative industry experience and
classroom practice has shaped me into a well-rounded, reflective educator who approaches
challenges with flexibility and care.

I obtained my BA (Hons) in Primary Education at the University of Greenwich, London.
