About William Niaing Oo:
My academic experience has shaped my fascination for solving in-depth problems. By completing my master degree I have unlocked several soft and hard skills from collaborative projects and presentations.
I gained industry experience at BAE systems, where I performed systems engineering related tasks that added value towards my team. It was a formidable experience that improved my understanding of engineering and workplace practices.
Since childhood I’ve been trying to stay disciplined with my fitness by swimming, callisthenics or even badminton. I’ve also met and listened to people to understand their lives which has helped me improve mine
Experience
I was positioned within the Air sector as a Missions Systems Engineer for the GCAP programme. My team led the development of operational requirements based on the user’s specifications. Much of my work was spent on conducting research tasks within the Airspace Integration department to provide top-level requirements for software and hardware equipment.
I was issued core placement objectives; the first was to generate artefacts aimed at senior colleagues to inform them of where the Airspace Integration team remained within the organisation structure. I migrated documents across multiple workstations to configure the relevant data onto specific file management systems. I assisted in meetings with international partners and system suppliers by documenting actions, responsible parties, and deadlines. I took minutes of each meeting to raise any difficulties I faced when understanding certain topics with my line manager.
I frequently briefed team members regularly on quarterly planned sprint level features that were assigned as tasks allocated within core placement objectives. I had to issue these tasks using the Agile workflow process within Kanban boards to inform colleagues of the criteria of my work and the additional value it added towards the team.
I organised a visit to the Samlesbury site, which was tailored towards the Missions Systems team. Organising the tour was relevant towards completing this task, a Stretch Assignments outside of my existing work.
I reviewed large and complex system requirement documents to track any changes made in association with the Airspace Integration working group. I documented the relevant updates to support my colleagues working on the Missions Systems.. To develop my work further, I would often collaborate with my line manager to discuss and identify specific data necessary within the document.
I evaluated my experience at BAE Systems in the 10th week and produced an end of placement presentation for my line manager, team manager, and early careers team. This presentation detailed the soft and hard skills that I developed throughout my placement.
To conclude my internship, I improved and updated the onboarding packs to tailor the information towards future short-term employees.
