As a Senior Investment Specialist on the Enterprise Advice (EA) portfolio construction methodology research team you will initiate research projects that enhance Vanguard's impact in the advice industry.

You will serve as an internal expert in developing recommendations and perspectives on complex investment issues that are used internally and externally with clients/prospects.

You'll advocate for EA's strategic vision with internal stakeholders to encourage adoption of new portfolio construction methodologies and enhancements to existing methodologies.

This role will also provide guidance to investment analysts.


This role:


  • Performs complex quantitative and qualitative analysis and offers opinions and recommendations related to portfolio construction and investment advice. Devises perspectives that enhance Vanguard's role as an investment leader in the industry.
  • Participates in the ongoing review and enhancement of Vanguard's investment methodology. Performs detailed methodology audits and makes recommendations on changes.
  • Serves as an advised investment strategy internal authority. Meets with senior leaders to determine requirements for research requests. Supports adhoc research projects, builds research inventory for internal use, and may schedule ongoing research and delivery of content for internal crossdivisional team usage.
  • Participates in group discussions designed to identify and debate investment issues and potential research projects. Develops recommendations on new research topics or advice methodology issues.
  • Provides guidance to investment analysts within the team on research, methodology, or overall context regarding analyses.

What it takes:


  • Eight years related work experience, including five years quantitative portfolio construction experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education in a related field. Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience required. Graduate degree strongly preferred.
  • CFA and/or advanced degree in quantitative finance or related field strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with advanced portfolio construction techniques, including utility theory and risk management (Barra or Axioma) strongly preferred.
  • Strong coding abilities with Python or similar languages preferred.
