We are currently recruiting an Environmental Services Deputy Technical Officer to join our Technical Services Team at Sunderland City Council.


As a Deputy Technical Officer, you will assist our Technical Services Officers in managing information and carrying out project work, while also handling complex queries and administrative tasks.

You will be working in a fast-paced and busy environment, dealing with enquiries from various sources, and you'll have the opportunity to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business.


Our Technical Services Team provides an intelligence led, proactive and flexible function, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to develop and gain experience in the service.

We are looking for someone who is committed to providing excellent customer service, a team player, and enthusiastic about this opportunity.


You will work in a small team that supports Environmental Services; excellent communication skills are essential to succeed in this role.

You should be able to work to statutory or regulatory deadlines and deal with challenging situations proactively.

You will be able to assist with investigating, collating, recording, manipulating, extracting, and distributing data to achieve specific aims of a given project.

Additionally, you will assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining management information systems that support the service's aims and organisation. You will also be monitoring progress against plans throughout the year with a view to achieving set business objectives.

You will need excellent computer skills to update systems and maintain a high level of accuracy.

Strong customer service skills are essential, as you'll be communicating with service users, members of the public, and external organisations via a range of communication methods.


You should be able to multitask and handle changing priorities, and any previous experience of working with a case management system would be an advantage.

You should also be fully familiar with data protection and the use of MS Office/Office 365.

The Environmental Services team delivers an essential 24 hours, 365 days a year service.

You will be required to work flexibly to meet this service delivery and will be appointed on a flexible "5 out of 7" 37-hours per week contract, which could include some weekend and evening work.
