Head of People Experience - Hybrid, Purfleet, Essex.

About The Opportunity:


  • In conjunction with the HR Director, take ownership of the full People Experience journey at Carpetright to include learning, talent management, DE&I, internal communications, culture & wellbeing.
  • Develop and implement joined up strategies/roadmaps across all areas of responsibility with a view to creating a brilliant colleague experience that drives business performance
  • Work closely with the HR Director to shape and develop HR initiatives, policies and processes balancing the need to improve the employee experience with commercial reality.
  • Support and lead on cross functional people related projects specifically focusing on our key strategic initiatives of engaging and retaining our best talent.
  • Partner closely with key stakeholders across the HR function to diagnose strengths and opportunities across the employee lifecycle impacting employee experience.
  • Create meaningful (and simple) data and reporting to demonstrate progress which can be circulated at board & colleague level.
  • Lead on development and promotion of our EVP
  • Be the authority on all thing's People Experience within the organisation. Use experience, insights and thought leadership to challenge the status quo.
  • Create regular updates for the senior leadership team on the 'feeling' from the business with recommendations on how to improve all areas of People Experience
  • Lead the development and delivery of a leadership development strategy to improve leadership capability, drive accountability and role model Carpetright values and behaviours.
  • Support the HRD and Head of People Ops in leading the HR function.
  • Lead and coach a team of learning professionals
  • In conjunction with our Engagement & Communication Manager, devise and implement an Internal Communications strategy including a roadmap for delivery, ensuring our colleagues are informed and positively talk about us as an employer of choice.
  • Review and implement a modern approach to Performance Management that drives performance and the right behaviours.
  • Design an L&D strategy which encompasses leadership & management development, onboarding, career development, career pathways & frameworks including technical training.
  • Provide support to the Learning & Development Manager to drive capability and performance through the Carpetright Academies and leadership development programmes.
  • Take the lead on strategic workforce planning to identify current and future skills and develop talent management plans to identify, grow or acquire organisational capabilities including effective succession planning and new talent development schemes.
  • Ownership of creating a wellbeing strategy which aims to build a resilient workforce whilst ensuring colleagues feel supported and educated
  • Take ownership of a companywide colleague engagement surveys (plus other colleague surveys) including ensuring there are business/departmental action plans in place based on the output.

About Your Experience:


  • Previous experience of leading in the areas of Learning and Development, Talent & DE&I, a senior level, preferably in a large, multisite consumer facing organisation
  • Proven experience designing and delivering People Experience programmes that effectively brought commercial objectives to life, including engagement data
  • A good understanding of how approaches to engagement can be used to create organisation value and improve the employee experience.
  • A great understanding of how to define current and future capability needs of the organisation and how they driv
