Support Worker, CB1

12.5 hours a week. £13.50 an hour
About me...

I am a 23 year old woman suffering with anorexia, bulimia and arthritis. I am also autistic and have depression and anxiety. I am mostly dependent on either a wheelchair or my mobility scooter depending on my health.

My hobbies include reading, films, TV, going for walks if the weather is nice, puzzles, crafts and I enjoy going for coffee, going shopping and to watch musicals.

Hours and rate of Pay

12.5 hours a week some flexibility with days and times is needed. £13.50 an hour Enhanced DBS clearance is essential

What you would be doing

You will need to be a body confident person and happy in your own skin. Your most important role will be as my friend and companion. This is really important for me because you will be spending time in my house with me.

You will be supporting me to get out into the community, company at home, going for coffee and with my grocery shopping when I need it.

You will also support me with light household chores such as hoovering and changing my bed.

I am not good with small talk so you would need to be happy in your own company while I study, but ready to chat if I need you to.

I am looking for a genuine relationship, one where we can get to know each other, chat and have a laugh together.

I may need occasional mealtime support which might mean sitting with me eating your own lunch and keeping my mind off the meal in front of me.

I will help you to understand my needs so you can support me appropriately.

It is important you have a car with a boot big enough to fit a mobility scooter or wheelchair in case I need to attend medical appointments.

Petrol would be compensated at a pre-agreed rate between us.

The person I would like

Previous experience of supporting someone, either in their personal life or professionally, would be a huge benefit.

You will be someone who enjoys being both indoors and outdoors and have a willingness to learn about my condition and how it impacts on everyday life.

Eating disorders are hugely complex conditions as is my autism, and the physical disabilities my arthritis and anorexia/bulimia cause. You will need to be patient and empathetic and very open minded.

You will possess the motivation and commitment to develop trust and understanding within the role, be a good communicator, reliable, tolerant with a cheerful demeanour and good sense of humour.

You will be someone who has the skills to give me support with building my confidence & self-esteem & promoting my independence.

You need to be a good listener as I often feel suicidal and need to talk about my feelings, although I mostly prefer distraction techniques or use of dark humour to talk about serious topics and emotions.

You will never be alone and my Mum will be able to give guidance and support you. I want us both to look forward to your visits as friends would.
