The general operative role is to operate both static and mobile plant to high standards of ability and maintenance. This role will focus on the static plant maintenance and crushing of stone. The role must be upheld with health and safety standards and drive for continuous improvement.


Mission & role of the function

  • To safely operate the static plant in line with company health and safety standards. Report all plant defects to site management.
  • To be able to operate any mobile plant, as directed by Site Management, to which they are certificated in safe and proper manner
  • To undertake general maintenance works as required by Hanson
  • Comply with Company health and safety and environmental procedures
  • To ensure that customers' order requirements are fully satisfied.
  • Ensure and check materials leaving the site comply with Company quality requirements.
  • Always ensure politeness and punctuality.
  • Responsibility to pass on any health and safety changes at site to haulers.

Key accountabilities

  • To maintain the static plant in a good order physically and with greasing, cleaning in accordance with the manufacturers and Hanson recommendations.
  • To always operate mobile plant in a safe manner and keep in good condition
  • To ensure all plant is operated as economically as possible.
  • To complete daily inspection sheets of the conditions of mobile and static plant.
  • To report problems or defects of mobile plant to the Foreman/Manager.
  • To complete near miss reports as required by Site Management.
  • To operate the weighbridge in accordance with all procedures/ site rules
  • Ensure compliance with Competition Act.
  • To ensure compliance with Weights and Measures Act
  • Ensure Company information is dealt with as per the Company procedures.
  • Ensure Site Manager is made aware of driver short falls in performance and training needs
  • Keep workstations clean and tidy
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Ensure buildings are always kept secure

Job requirements

The role holder is expected:

  • To be able to operate mobile plant as required.
  • To adhere to the company health & safety policy.
  • To adhere to the Quarry Regulations 199
  • To comply with all aspects of the Hanson Compliance Policy
  • To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and to observe the requirements of the Company Safety Policy and other relevant legislation
  • To update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required
  • To comply will all aspects of the HR Policies and Procedures of the Company
  • To ensure that all the business/operations are performed in accordance with instructions and procedures and in such a way to prevent any fraudulent activities taking place
  • To be able to carry out weighbridge operations and processing operations and mobile plant operations as required.
  • To have a good general education as a large amount of health and safety regulations and quarry regulations are required to be understood and carried out.
  • To work towards and obtain QCF certification in Mobile plant and weighbridge operations
  • To report any defects to site Management for mobile plant or Weighbridge under their control
  • To ensure all collect trade customers follow site rules
  • To ensure haulers understand and use company equipment in line with company instructions to ensure customers get the best service

Education/Qualification

  • Good general education required as a large amount of health and safety regulations and Quarry Regulations are required to be understood and carried out.
  • Certification by MPQC to operate mobile plant.
  • QCF level in mobile plant operations required following MPQC completion.
  • IT competency for weighing out Vehicles and servicing customers
  • QCF level in Weighbridge operations
