Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow (Higher) in PACU (Post Anaesthesia Care Unit) and Anaesthesia at this busy major UK teaching hospital.

Posts are available from 01 February 2023 and 02 August 2023 for 12 months.


The key responsibilities of the post are to provide peri-operative care to major high risk elective surgical patients, teach Peri-operative and acute care to University of Cambridge Clinical School Students and support service improvement and clinical governance activities associated with the OIR/PACU unit, ACCSA and PQUIP workstreams.


The Clinical Fellow position would suit any trainee with a minimum of two years' experience in Anaesthesia, providing the opportunity to further their anaesthetic experience in a supervised training environment, in a number of subspecialty areas of anaesthesia, appropriate for their level of experience.

Experience in critical care can also be provided.

A large proportion of the workload will be in the newly established CUH Overnight Intensive Recovery (OIR) / Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and this is where the majority of the out of hours commitment will be.

This post is equivalent to a training post, although does not have Deanery approval. Please note that these posts donotcarry Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of commencement is required.


The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

These posts may have an on call commitment on a full shift rota system if required by the department. The shift working pattern will be explained at interview.
