The role of
Estate Grounds Maintenance Apprentice will encompass a variety of skills and responsibilities.

The right applicant will be a forward thinking, proactive team player who takes pride in their work and shares in the company ethos of "whatever it takes" with a firm belief in teamwork.

This role is a hands on position and the love of working in the outdoors is a necessity.

The right apprentice will need to:

  • Undertake all aspects of husbandry and production including preparation, growing and harvesting
  • Good time management skills are essential in order to manage schedules and ensure product specifications are met on time.
  • Transplant and prune shrubs and small trees
  • Weed nursery beds and assist with mulching
  • Identify and treat potential pests or diseases
The role would be best suited to someone who has a plant background with a passion for horticulture.

Experience is not essential as the right person will be trained as part of the apprenticeship, however it would be beneficial.

Communication is a key aspect of the role, as you will be working closely with the team around you. We encourage our team members to share their thoughts and make suggestions on better ways to improve production.

Desired Qualifications

  • None Specified but a willingness to learn is important
  • GCSE's, or equivalents in maths and English are desired but not essential

Future Prospects

  • The opportunity for a full time role if one is available.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
  • You will also need to achieve Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work and Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance or Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides before undertaking the End Point Assessment.

Things to consider

  • KEITS Training Services Ltd reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier than the listed closing date should the need arise.
  • This position will be a handson post.
  • The role, work will be outdoors in all seasons, either dirty and wet or hot and sweaty with indoor office for any administration.
  • Travel within a working day is frequent and will be between the estate sites. Absence from home overnight is uncommon but possible to support the business at shows or training events.
