Head of Compliance

The Head of Compliance will oversee all compliance and regulatory matters at a strategic level.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will be responsible for setting and delivering strategic objectives relating to compliance that align with the firm's ambitious growth plans and responsibilities to relevant regulatory and auditing bodies.

Prior experience in managing compliance at Executive/Board level is essential, including in-depth experience gained within the legal sector.

Office location:
Derby head office with remote and onsite support as required at our central Birmingham office.

Role


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing all strategic areas of compliance and regulation, working closely with the Compliance Manager and COLP/COFA.
  • Attending board meetings and individual meetings with the Chief Executive Officer to align strategy to growth plans for the firm.
  • Consulting seniorlevel management across the firm to embed compliance processes and procedures as required.
  • Conducting internal audits periodically across all legal departments to ensure compliance with relevant auditing bodies, such as the SRA.
  • Providing inhouse consultative advice to the CEO regarding proactive compliance matters.
  • Preparing indepth reports to present to the CEO and management board as required.
  • Ensuring continued accreditation of ISO 9001, 14001 and 27001 and making recommendations to the board regarding any additional accreditations that would be of benefit to the business.
  • Creating and implementing clear strategies for continuing and obtaining relevant accreditations.
  • Regularly meeting with Heads of Departments (HODs) to ensure they are fulfilling their obligations in relation to compliance matters.
  • Providing regular compliance training to all staff as required.
  • Attend quarterly HOD meetings.
  • Ensure appropriate allocation of work within the team to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Proactively driving performance within all teams across the business on compliance matters.
  • Taking an active lead on preparation and execution of external audits alongside the Compliance Manager.
  • Keeping up to date about pending industry changes, SRA updates and changing trends/best practices. Propose any relevant amendments to compliance strategies as required to the CEO.
  • Taking a proactive approach to identify compliance issues follow up in a timely manner with the relevant HOD. Investigate further where necessary.
  • Ensuring that the IT department has systems in place to adequately provide oversight and monitoring as required by compliance legislation, SRA, ICO, BSI/ISO and client SLAs or contracts.
  • Assessing service, product, compliance, or operational risks and working with relevant partners/staff to develop and put in place risk management strategies.

You will:

  • Have prior experience managing compliance at Executive/Board level
  • Have significant experience in managing and building a team of dedicated risk amd compliance specialists
  • Have significant experience in risk, compliance, and governance monitoring in a legal services environment
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communications skills with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Be able to maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies
