Description
This is a 3-year fixed-term contract in the context of a funded project on bilingual development.

The funding source is the Open Research Area (ORA), a collaboration between various national funding bodies, and involves a partner in Germany (University of Braunschweig) and in France (University of Toulouse).

The project aims to explore the processing of grammatical gender, by means of a variety of experimental approaches (including reaction-time and eye-tracking experiments) among monolinguals, second language learners and language attriters.

The project languages are English, French and German.

The successful applicant will oversee the data collection in the United Kingdom. They will assist the PIs with experimental design, participant recruitment, data management and -analysis and writing up the results. They will coordinate student assistants who will administer the experiments and transcribe the collected data.

The Department of Language and Linguistic Science is seeking to appoint a Postgraduate Research Assistant to contribute to a funded project on bilingual development.

The funding source is the Open Research Area (ORA), a collaboration between various national funding bodies, and involves a partner in Germany (University of Braunschweig) and in France (University of Toulouse).

This is a 3-year fixed-term contract, starting July 3rd or as soon as possible thereafter.


Role:

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed:


  • Knowledge of theories of bilingual development, including language attrition
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical methods (e.g. mixed effects regression modelling and/or structural equation modelling)
  • Ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination
  • Demonstrable experience with project management and providing leadership to student assistant/fieldworkers
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using own initiative
