The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust's Clinical Pathology Department is based across both campuses.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to provide a medical secretarial service to the Clinical Pathology Physicians along with supporting other administrative colleagues with the smooth running of the office by undertaking reception and telephone duties in order to ensure workloads are achieved and service requirements are met.


This role requires an eye for detail, excellent communication and keyboard skills and the ability to multi task whilst working calmly under pressure in this particularly busy environment.

This role is primarily based at City Hospital Campus.

Main duties of the job

Brief duties include providing a medical secretarial service to the Clinical Pathology Administration Team and Consultant Clinicians and SpR's. Duties will include arranging follow up appointments, infusion appointments, typing clinic letters.

Chasing outstanding medical results for clinic and contribute to the provision of a smooth running office by undertaking reception and telephone duties as well as covering the telephones along with general office duties.

There may be a requirement for you to supervise a Band 2 Admin Apprentice in the near future.

The Clinical Pathology Department provides a comprehensive laboratory diagnostic service to specialities within the Trust and GP's along with providing research support.

We provide a 24/7 service 365 days of the year. We also run Metabolic Bone Clinics, Infusion Clinics and a Cardiovascular Risk Clinic.


The departmental workload is approximately 6.1 million orders per annum equating to 14.66 million tests that were analysed in the year , 45% of this was analysis for Primary Care.

We are a busy organisation that consists of > 200 staff that work across both campuses.

Training / Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • 4 GCSE's or equivalent including English
  • NVQ level 2 in administration or equivalent experience
  • RSA2 or equivalent
Desirable criteria

  • RSA 3 typing/word processing skills or equivalent
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Recognised secretarial/administration qualification
Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of 2 years office/secretarial experience
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Reception, telephone and diary management experience
Desirable criteria

  • Experience of supervising others

Salary:
The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
