Focusing on working with young parents within the community on an outreach basis, enhancing our existing provision for young Parents aged 11-19 years.

Reporting to:
the Chief Executive Officer and Project Manager


Duration: 22 hours per week, fixed-term contract (funded role for 2 years).

Flexible hours can be negotiated, with a core hours Mon-Fri working pattern.


Salary:
£29,519 pro rata per annum (actual £15.34 per hour)

Job Purpose


The role will support the implementation of a robust community engagement and parenting support offer for young parents across the Gateshead area.


This post will include regular communication with young parents and key stakeholders to build successful relationships with a wide range of local groups and community leaders.


The post holder will create a steering group for young parents to involve them in the co-production and delivery of our programme, its outcomes and development.

The role aims to increase opportunities for young parents and enhance their engagement in local services.


Job context


An exciting role has arisen to join the Young Women's Outreach Project, with an ambitious and exciting vision, for the Gateshead Community.

The post holders will develop work with the Family Hubs, and other community settings, to improve the outcomes for young families, in areas with the highest levels of deprivation and disproportionately poor health and educational outcomes.

Our aim is to enable young mothers to improve access to services or feedback and influence change around their barriers with this.

This project will engage young parents and offer support to young families from conception and to those with children of all ages, which is 0- 5.


Community hubs and other community spaces are a place-based way of locally joining up the planning and delivery to young parents aged 11-19 yrs or up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

They will bring services together to give one place for young parents to access professionals, services, and providers.

We will liaise with the hubs to improve access and ensure that young parents have support available within their communities.


The role will target young parents' that are less likely to access the range of services available and use the local knowledge and partnerships to increase parental engagement and access to services in line with the Family hubs and community services.


Key responsibilities

  • To foster relationships and develop champions within communitybased organisations, such as youth, housing, schools, leisure etc, faith leaders, voluntary sector and community leaders that lead to positive engagement of the community.
With an aim to help increase these services' awareness of the young parents in their areas.

  • To work to inform/engage young parents of services available to them, using a variety of methods including outreach, home visiting, facilitating groups and delivering activities.
  • To work closely with the Community hubs and other community support across
Gateshead to the benefit of young parents

  • To be involved in the design, and delivery of a comprehensive service programme, focussing on young parenting support. Deliver specific parenting activities and/or services appropriate to the needs and feedback of young parents engaged in the programme.
  • To assist with planning, coordination and execution of activities and events to support community engagement.
  • To ensure high quality information, support and guidance is provided to young families with children 05 and expectant parents and their families.
  • To work with parents to empower and equip them to access wider opportunities in education, work and volunteering.

  • To design social media platforms for young parents that support community engagement.
  • To deliver and or arrange meetings with the Young Women's Outreach Project support to identify young parents' social engagement / support within their communities.
  • To promote awareness and delivery of the Young Women's Project programmes across multiple community sites.
  • To actively promote, encourage and support the take up of the childcare entitlement schemes. This will include engagement with relevant colleagues and service providers, and care to learn funding.
