Job Description - Medical Receptionist/Administrator
Job Title:
Receptionist
Responsible to:
Practice Manager
Job Purpose:
To be a friendly and effective first point of contact for our patients and to also provide administration support to the practice team.
We require someone who possess excellent interpersonal skills, confidence, self-motivation and conscientiousness yet is able to work under pressure.
We care very much about our patients therefore we are looking for someone who has a passion to provide high quality patient service at all times.
Holidays: 25-33 days* plus bank holidays
(*depending on prev. NHS employment)
Duties and Responsibilities
Telephone Duties
- Making appointments and navigating patients to the most appropriate providers
- Taking requests for prescriptions
- Conveying messages both internal and external
- Assisting with patient/visitor enquiries
- Dealing with Home visit requests
- Deal with general enquiries
- Contacting other providers
Reception Duties
- Register new patients and temporary residents
- Greet and direct patients and visitors
- Care navigation and appointments
- Processing prescriptions requests
- Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to next shift, as necessary
- Respond to needs of doctors and nurses during surgery
- Collect payments from patients for non-NHS services
- Deal with general enquiries
Administration Duties
- General filing and scanning and photocopying
- Coding of data onto clinical records
- Chronic disease recall administration
Prescriptions
- Dealing with requests for repeat prescriptions
- Raising prescriptions as per Practice protocols
- Dealing with queries relating to repeat prescriptions
General
- Input and extract information from Practice computer system
- Observe health and safety guidelines and security at all times
- Key holder responsibilities
- Make refreshments for doctors and other team members, participate in washing up
- Maintaining mandatory training/attending necessary training sessions
- Maintain professionalism of both self and practice at all times
- Any other reasonable duties as necessary
Person Specification - Medical Receptionist/Administrator
Qualifications:
Essential:
Good standard of general education
GCSE Mathematics C or above
GCSE English C or above
Desirable:
AMSPAR Receptionist certificate
NVQII in Customer Care
CLAIT/other IT Qualification
Experience:
Essential - Experience of working with the general public
Desirable - Experience of reception work
Experience of working within General Practice
