We have an excellent opportunity for a
Team Administrator to join our growing Tree of Life team on a - 7 month contract.


About the Role:

You will consolidate administrative, personal assistant and programme support.

This will include, but is not limited to, diary organisation and coordination, organisation of team and programme meetings and seminars, providing support and arrangements for visitors to the programme, facilitating travel for programme faculty and teams, and other administrative tasks including purchasing, minuting meetings, completing paperwork, processing expenses and generally ensuring smooth operation of the programme.

The role will also operationally lead the organization of BG2023 ToL's flagship annual conference.


About You:


You will work within the PM and Operation team and specifically assist on a day-to-day basis ToL's programme lead and other senior stakeholders (as needed).


You will be required to engage and collaborate with many other teams, so good communication and collaboration skills are essential.


About Us:


The Tree of Life (ToL) Programme at the Wellcome Sanger Institute focuses on the generation and analysis of high-quality genome sequences from across eukaryotic biodiversity.

The ToL programme includes several projects dedicated to particular sections of the Tree of Life, such as the Aquatic Symbiosis Genomics Project, the Darwin Tree of Life Project, the Vertebrate Genomes Project, European Reference Genomes Atlas and Earth BioGenome Project.

All these projects rely on an ample network of collaborations and partnerships with other large global genome initiatives.


ToL's Programme Management and Operations (PM&O) team supports the cutting-edge research of all Faculty groups within the Programme and the wider network of collaborators and partners.

By providing multidisciplinary support, we maximise the delivery and scale of our Faculty science.

PM&O is comprised of several teams supporting the following activities; team and research administration, sample management, project management and wildlife compliance.


Technical Skills:


  • Educated to GCSE standard with English and Maths (grades A-C) or equivalent qualifications
  • Comprehensive secretarial/PA or administrative experience at senior manager level
  • Experience of administrative systems and processes
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Appropriate level of data protection, security and confidentiality awareness
  • Proficient in diary management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confident at communicating with all levels of staff verbally and written
  • Exceptional organiser with the ability to prioritise and manage work load
  • Ability to work independently, but also able to develop collaborative working relationships with other team members
  • Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

£32,320 - £38,784
