Communications Specialist on the
Old Oak Common Station project and open up new pathways you never dreamt possible.


This role will need to have a visible present on the project, at least 3 days site based with 2 days working from home.


Role Purpose:


To promote and protect the reputation of BBVS JV and the Old Oak Common station development to internal and external stakeholders.


What you'll be doing
As a
Communications Specialist, you will have the following accountabilities:

External communications

  • Work with the parent company and client communications team to identify and create media campaigns aimed at promoting the HS2 Old Oak Common Development and achieving SEE, EDI, Environmental etc. objectives.
  • Oversee project LinkedIn channel including the creation of regular, highquality updates that are inline with HS2 requirements.
  • Act as a brand champion and manage the BBVS and HS2 brands, ensuring appropriate guidelines are followed, cascading guidance down to the BBVS team and wider supply chain.
  • Organise events such as VIP visits, milestone celebrations etc.
  • Forward plan of upcoming project milestones and potential media opportunities.
  • Act as key point of contact between BBVS and HS2 comms teams in a crisis. Collating and providing facts and supporting information to aid in the development of HS2 holding statements and other communication material.
  • Provide parent company and client communications with the information required to respond to media enquiries prior to deadlines.

Internal communications

  • Manage the production of highquality communications materials aimed at promoting engagement, best practice, and knowledge sharing. This includes the preparation and issue of team newsflashes, project newsletters, posters, content for television screens and noticeboards, presentations, award submissions and designed collateral such as brochures, leaflets, signs etc.
  • Produce and implementation of internal comms campaigns.
  • Assist business functions with the promotion of campaigns, initiatives, and events.
  • Share internal content with parent company and client communications teams.
  • Arrange for the clearance of subcontractors' photographs and news releases, handle requests for filming and photography sessions.
  • Contribute to the provision of weekly activity reports and threemonthly PMU reports.
  • Manage the creation of social media and internal communications trackers.
Other responsibilities

  • Manage communications team including the Communications Officer and Communications Apprentice (interim)
  • Where required, support the community engagement team with events and other community engagement activities.

Who we're looking for

You will have the following:

  • A qualification in Public Relations, journalism, English or equivalent;
  • Experienced PR and media professional;
  • A strong writer with good attention to detail;
  • An understanding of the media and stories and angles that would be seen to be newsworthy;
  • Experience in leveraging PR to build brand awareness and enhance brand reputation;
  • Experience in crisis communications and brand management;
  • Previous experience in managing internal communications for large audiences;
  • Previous social media experience, with specific emphasis on LinkedIn;
  • Member of CIPR or equivalent professional body (desirable);
  • Experience in managing people (desirable);
  • Experience working in a design environment (desirable);
  • Experience working in a construction or infrastructure environments (desirable).
