The role The role**Due to increased workload we are seeking to recruit a Principal Engineering Manager - Stations and Civils. The main purpose of this role will be to provide engineering leadership for work packages within an overall programme of works.
To develop and maintain strong engineering relationships with the client.
Responsible for managing and integrating the engineering resources to support the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary design and implementation work packages, to programme and to the required quality.
Responsible for implementing the engineering strategy for the programme and providing technical support to the Infrastructure Services Director, supporting on inter-disciplinary engineering management issues, and ensuring compliance with Amey EM procedures.
Furthermore, to:
- Provide advice and guidance for less experienced staff, together with Delegated Engineer guidance and the active encouragement of professional development.
- Ensure excellent relationships are maintained with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company and the delivery of projects to the Client.
Key accountabilities In a typical week you will**:
Technical
- Ensure that staff are competent and, where necessary, licenced to undertake the level of engineering required on the programme, including Contractor's Engineering Managers (CEMs) discipline specific Project Engineers (PEs) and Responsible Engineers (CREs)
- Recruit, train and mentor staff within their area of professional excellence to meet the competency requirements identified by the Technical Directors
- Ensure that the work package has defined competency requirements
- Lead on the Engineering management of individual multidisciplinary work packages within the programme
- Monitor and ensure continuous improvement of the performance of CEMs, PEs and CREs within the programme
- Lead on innovation and promotion of best practice
- Work with the Programme Engineering Managers to plan and grow the level of engineering resource necessary to support the programme, including identifying and assessing key suppliers
- Liaise with the Programme/Project Managers ensure that resource requirements are understood and can be met by the team or external supply chain.
- Support Recruitment and Retention Strategies.
- Continuously engage with the technical areas of our clients' business to get feedback on our technical delivery and capability within the programme
- Act as the principal point of contact for engineering matters associated with a specific work package
- Work with the Engineering Directors, Discipline Leads, and other Managers across Amey, to develop and implement continuous improvement on multidisciplinary projects

- Support the Technical Directors in developing Amey's understanding of the client's existing and future needs, and solutions to meet those
- Promote Amey's professional / technical excellence with existing clients
- Report on technical aspects of the programme in line with business objectives
- Report into the Engineering Director and interface with relevant Delivery Managers, Project Managers and other Principal Engineering Manager colleagues.
- Leader and line manager of Civil Engineering railway design and/or construction teams.
- Guide, supervise and develop less experienced staff and appraise all direct reports.
- Support Engineering Director regarding staff competence, resources, project planning, etc.
