HEAecology are seeking to recruit Assistant Ecologists to join our friendly team based on the Devon/Cornwall border.We provide ecological and environmental consultancy services including ecological impact assessments, mitigation licencing and much more to an extensive client base nationwide.
You will undertake a wide range of site surveys across the southwest and prepare reports to help our clients.Assistant Ecologist - The Role
- Undertake ecological surveys for a variety of protected species and habitats, including bats, Barn Owls, reptiles and badgers
- Assist with report writing for Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) including completing desk studies, collating and analysing survey data
- Professional liaison with clients and colleagues to organise surveys
- Undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) roles
- Opportunities to gain experience.
- Flexible working, some requirements for working unsociable hours on a Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) system
- PC and survey equipment will be provided, including all necessary Personal Protective Equipment
Person Specification
Essential skills/qualifications
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- Ability to undertake regular field work
- Full Driving license with access to a vehicle for work purposes
- An understanding of the role of ecological consultancy within the planning process and project team
- Ability to conduct onsite surveys and work from the office
- Previous report writing/preparation experience
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
- Previous experience of undertaking protected species surveys (bats in particular)
Desirable skills:
- Previous experience of analysing bat sound files (Analook in particular)
- Relevant degree in Ecology or similar
- Previous experience within an ecological consultancy
- Experience with QGIS
- CSCS card
- CIEEM membership, or be eligible for a membership
- Protected species licences
