    About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our client's team on a maternity cover contract, starting as soon as possible. This position is based in central Bristol within a BS1 postcode area, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing business's payroll operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the UK payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. This role involves working closely with the People and Finance teams, acting as the primary point of contact for payroll‑related queries, and maintaining high standards of data integrity and process efficiency. The payroll administrator will play a vital role in supporting employee satisfaction by ensuring payroll, pensions, and benefits are administered seamlessly during the maternity cover period, which lasts approximately nine months.

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience managing a monthly UK payroll, with a solid understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and salary sacrifice schemes.
    • Experience handling pension uploads, reconciliations, and payroll‑linked benefits such as Cycle to Work and Give As You Earn schemes.
    • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills to ensure error‑free payroll processing.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll concepts clearly to employees and stakeholders.
    • A high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee data.
    • Familiarity with payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and RTI filings.

Desirable qualifications include experience working in a tech or high‑growth environment, familiarity with payroll or HR systems, and exposure to multi‑country payroll operations.

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinating monthly payroll changes and preparing input data for the payroll provider to ensure timely and accurate processing.
    • Reviewing payroll outputs, resolving discrepancies, and preparing final payroll reports for the Head of Finance's review.
    • Managing pension uploads, reconciliations, and starter/leaver reporting to ensure compliance and accuracy.
    • Administering payroll‑linked benefits such as Cycle to Work and Give As You Earn, including setting up, amending, and stopping deductions as required.
    • Liaising with pension and benefits providers to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
    • Ensuring adherence to UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and maintaining accurate records for audit purposes.
    • Reconciling RTI filings, supporting year‑end processes such as P60s and PSA reporting, and preparing payroll journal files for Finance.
    • Acting as the first point of contact for employee payroll queries, providing clear explanations and support.
    • Partnering with the People team to ensure data accuracy and process efficiency, supporting onboarding and off‑boarding activities.
    • Maintaining payroll documentation, controls, and identifying opportunities for process improvements to enhance employee experience.
    • Providing operational support during the maternity cover period, ensuring seamless payroll service delivery.

    Benefits

    • Flexible working options to promote work‑life balance.
    • A friendly and collaborative team environment.
    • Competitive salary aligned with market standards for the duration of the contract.
    • Opportunities for professional development and gaining valuable experience within a dynamic organization.
    • Supportive management committed to employee well‑being and success.
