Family Support Worker

Permanent, Full time, 37.5 hours per week

£23,445-£28,019 per annum. Please note, starting salaries are usually set at the bottom of a scale


Martin House has been caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions from West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and the Humber for more than 30 years.

Every year we care for more than 420 families at our hospice in Boston Spa, in hospitals and in their own homes.

We also support more than 150 bereaved families each year.


The key purpose of this exciting new role is to provide emotional holistic care to children & young people with palliative care needs and their families working alongside the Clinical Psychologist and Family Support and Wellbeing Practitioner.

This postholder will be part of a compassionate and creative team delivering a high-quality individual and group family support services within the region.

Work may be face to face at the Hospice, outreaching within the community or via telephone or online sessions.

The Family Support team includes therapies, bereavement, spirituality, psychology, transition and wellbeing elements of care.

  • Be dedicated, compassionate, work in collaboration, be open, flexible, responsive and caring to deliver high standards in everything you do.
  • Practice the Martin House values including being child and family focused, listening and valuing others, working holistically and being dedicated to care.
  • Want to work in a wellestablished, awardwinning hospice, working as part of the multidisciplinary team to support the children, young people and their families from the time of their referral through to end of life care.
  • Have significant experience of working in a support role within a service for Children, Young People and their families. This will preferably be a service for children with complex or palliative care needs.
  • Be good at building rapport and making people feel at ease.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage own emotional needs engaging with regular supervision and support.
  • Have good IT skills and the ability to record care accurately and contemporaneously.
