An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Space Planning Officer within the Estate Services Department who can bring innovation, space management knowledge and built environment experience to an existing professional estates team.


Reporting to the Space Planning Manager, you will provide strategic space planning support and assist in the coordination and planning of estate-wide accommodation, providing draft drawings, plans, reports, and proposals for day-to-day physical office relocations.


You will bring technical experience to be able to assist in the design, development and reporting of accommodation use, space use scenarios, building performance and space capacity demands to support the delivery of the Essex Police Estates Strategy.


We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate:

Possession of a diploma (or equivalent qualifications or experience) in a relevant building related discipline such as Design/Architecture, Building Surveying, Engineering, and must be able to evidence at least two years proven track record of successful project delivery.

Experience in space planning management is essential.

An understanding of the key principles of project management and previous involvement in large scale projects.


Experience in methods and techniques associated with space planning, design and space management including experience of using data management software and other analytical tools to produce management level reporting.


Proficiency in producing all types of 2D & 3D building design & technical drawings using a computer aided drafting package, preferably AutoCAD.

Good communication and influencing skills with the ability to build relationships easily across the business at all levels.


You will be required to travel within the County and incorporate flexible working hours to meet the needs of the business.
