We have a brilliant opportunity for a
SEND Assistive Technology Coach to join our dedicated and passionate Disability Services Department.


Responsibilities include:


  • Champion and promote best practice in the use and development of accessible hardware and software to meet specific needs of individual and cohorts of students working closely with the Learning Development and Innovation Department.
  • Liaise with teaching and support staff to ensure they are familiar with equipment to meet students' individual needs, particularly the use of assessment procedures and possibilities to determine this
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Assistive Technology equipment used through the loans service, including an ongoing training and awareness offer and suite of resources
  • Operate the AT service, working with the assistive technology and materials team staff
  • Research with the line manager developments or trends within the Assistive Technology landscape and how these can best suit our college environment and student cohorts
  • Provide a response to issues encountered by students with loaned technology, ensuring a solution is provided to maintain the students' normal ways of working
  • Ensure that for key exam periods any students requiring specialist equipment as part of exam access arrangements are on the service's radar, working with the exams team, wider Disability Services team and the line manager to ensure processes are robust
  • Undertake assistive technology assessments for current and potential students, including arranging assessments of technology needs for students with EHCPs transitioning to college thus ensuring the service is aware of potential needs far in advance
  • Work with the line manager and IT services to review the crosscollege and departmental device systems image to ensure it meets accessibility needs and can be tailored to meet the loan service needs

Education & Training

  • GCSE 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field

Experience

  • Experience of working with and training on a range of technologies, specifically those used for accessibility and student needs
  • Experience of analysing and interpreting data and trends.
  • Experience of delivering training to a wide range of audience and ability.
  • Sound understanding of the range of problems encountered by disabled users and of current technologies available.
  • Experience and ability to utilize a range of software packages and related hardware to determine the correct way to display and use learning materials to suit a variety of needs
  • Ability to trial new technologies and evaluate potential use
