Job overview

The NUH Estates Department is recruiting for a total of 8 apprenticeships starting in September 2023.

We are offering a total of 4 mechanical (plumbing) apprenticeships split evenly between our Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital sites in Nottingham.

These are really exciting and varied roles where no two days are the same.

The departments at both sites have over 100 tradespeople in them and there is plenty of support for people undertaking apprenticeships.

We can also offer peer support as you will be starting at the same time as others doing the same apprenticeship.

Main duties of the job

As an electrical apprentice you would be learning in an industrial scale environment where we maintain and operate our own high voltage network on site (11KV).

As we're a critical facility some of our electrical supplies are backed up by generator sets. Our operating theatres and life critical areas usually have uninterruptible power supplies. This makes our electrical systems really complex and means there is a lot to learn

As a mechanical apprentice you would be joining us at a time where we've received government funding to install 4MW of water source heat pumps to start to decarbonise Queens Medical Centre.

At City Hospital we have a brand new energy centre and the age and size of the site means you will have the opportunity to work on systems from the Victorian era onwards
