About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO'S PERSUASIVE POWERS
The Adult Social Care team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers.

It's a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word.

So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that.

Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal.

And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role:

As a Driver / Assistant Support Worker you can make your own powerful contribution to enriching the lives of adults with learning disabilities.

Joining the Community Access Westminster team, you'll get to go home every day knowing you have made a real difference for some of the most vulnerable people in Westminster.

Our work is all about enabling local residents to achieve real success in their lives. We believe that 'every moment has potential' and every person needs support that's tailored to their unique needs.

You'll collect people from their homes, take them to activity locations both within and beyond Westminster, and help your colleagues to deliver life-enhancing sessions by supporting people's needs throughout.

Many of the adults we support have Profound & Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) so you'll often find yourself pushing a wheelchair and you'll always keep an eye on everyone's health and safety.

You'll also take good care of the vehicle you drive, making sure it's clean and tidy, with all tail-lifts and clamps working perfectly.

Please refer to the
Job Description** for more information.

About You:

Working with adults who have PMLD can be challenging because human behaviour is unpredictable.

For this reason, we would prefer it if you have experience of working with people who have learning disabilities or Autism.

Ideally you will also have experience of working alongside a Passenger Assistant, helping people to use service-based transportation.

As this is a driving role as well as a support worker position, you will need a PCV D1 licence, valid in the UK.

It's also vital that you understand health and safety requirements around the transportation of people who use wheelchairs.

In return for your dedication, you'll benefit from our commitment to your ongoing development.

As an employee of Community Access Westminster you'll have access to specialist training in areas that are not part of the support services you provide each day.

So if you want to build a career in this rewarding area of work, our friendly service is the place to do it.

What We Offer:

Westminster is an amazing place.

We are home to more than 200,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster.
