Come and join our friendly pharmacy clinical trials team.


The team provide pharmacy support for the expanding Research and Development work of the trust, we have a large portfolio of studies requiring the input of the pharmacy department.

We are involved in trials which cover many clinical specialties including ophthalmology, cardiology, gastroenterology and dermatology.


We are heavily involved in supporting the NIHR Royal Liverpool Clinical Research Facility in the conduct of first in human studies.


We work with external trial sponsors such as pharmaceutical companies, universities and local research units to ensure the correct and safe management of clinical trial medication.

You will be involved in the set up and management of upcoming studies.


You will also assist in the maintenance of trial drugs, dispensing and labelling clinical trial drugs, recording drug accountability and investigating any discrepancies and temperature monitoring of any areas storing clinical trial medication.


You will also meet with external trial representatives during their monitoring visits to discuss the conduct of the trials at site.

Full training in our in-house procedures and policies will be given.


As a clinical trials pharmacy assistant, you will work cross site at both the Royal Liverpool and Aintree hospitals within the pharmacy department.

The main duties of the job are;
To support all aspects of communications and business diary management for members of the pharmacy clinical trials team


To assist in all issues relating to administrative support within the pharmacy clinical trials team in order to facilitate the delivery of a comprehensive Pharmaceutical service to the Trust.


To support the routine stock management of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) including receipt, stock rotation, temperature monitoring and returns in line with departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).

To dispense clinical trials prescriptions and support the technical clinical trials staff with duties relating to dispensing processes.


If you do not already have a Level 2 Pharmacy qualification, you will be needed to complete this training as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council.

You will be required to participate in weekend, late night and bank holiday rotas.

Key responsibilities
Administration

To take telephone calls and other messages on behalf of the team and take appropriate action against agreed criteria.


To communicate with other persons, groups or directorates both within and outside the trust on behalf of the team, demonstrating a high level of initiative, confidentiality and diplomacy.


To help manage the teams business diary; organise meetings as required; and where necessary, attend such meetings and take notes.

In the absence of the senior ATO, support the production of agendas and papers relevant to meetings convened by members of the team and to ensure agendas, notes and appropriate follow-up actions are circulated in a timely fashion


To ensure the timely and appropriate processing of the sections incoming and outgoing mail (paper and electronic) against agreed criteria.


To initiate correspondence or other written work in the specified formats as required by the other members of the team.

To ensure that the pharmacy clinical trial database is maintained and assist in its development.

To maintain an orderly and suitable inventory of all pharmacy related clinical trials.
IMP management

To ensure that Pharmacy trial files contain appropriate copies of all relevant documentation following departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).

To document the return of unused/unwanted investigational medicinal products
(IMPs) following departmental SOPs and to participate in the safe disposal of drugs when appropriate with particular regard to departmental procedures.

To assist in the routine stock management duties including IMP temperature
monitoring, expiry date checking, stock rotation, receipt of IMPs in line with departmental SOPs
