HR Executive


Edinburgh University Press is a thriving academic publisher, producing over 250 new books and 53 new journals each year, with an emphasis on the Humanities and Social Sciences.


We are looking for an experienced and eager to learn HR Executive to join the team at our Edinburgh office.


This newly created role will facilitate the execution and delivery of the People Expertise strand of our Strategic Plan by providing professional HR administrative and systems support across the whole business.


You will act as first point of contact to answer HR queries and manage the administration of a full employee lifecycle.


You will have the opportunity to develop your existing skills and experience by working with HR consultants and assist with strategic People projects, aimed at increasing employee engagement and satisfaction.

The role will report to the Finance Manager


Key Accountabilities & Activities

Recruitment and Onboarding Assistance
Assist in managing the recruitment, selection and onboarding process (advertising, screening, interviews, issuing offers and employment contracts, induction).

HR Helpline Support


Act as first point of contact to answer HR queries from colleagues across the business; familiarise yourself with University of Edinburgh employment policies; provide People and Money system support to staff and line manager.

HR Administration


Maintain all HR records and paperwork in relation to contract changes, probationary periods, performance evaluations, leavers etc; update templates, contracts, manuals and Employee Handbook to ensure compliance with employment law and best practice.

Payroll and Finance Assistance
Liaise with the UoE Payroll team and support the finance team with any matters related to Payroll.

Business Support


Assist in preparing Personal Training and Development Plans, performance reviews and additional HR projects when required; provide H&S administrational support and office management support.

Systems Development and Process Improvement


Actively engage with the HR People & Money system to explore additional functionalities and opportunities for introducing better ways of working at EUP.

Provide system guidance and support to the team.


Person Specification

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or business management, or at least CIPD Level 3 qualifications.
  • Genuine interest in HR.
  • At least of 1 to 2 years of proven experience in providing HR administrative support.
  • Working knowledge of policies, codes of practice and employment legislation desirable.
  • Practical knowledge of Payroll and ability to explain it to staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and relationships building skills.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team and providing support and guidance to staff and line managers.

Salary:
£28,000 - £29,399 pro-rata


Contract:
permanent; part-time (14 hours per week)


Location:
Edinburgh office


Holiday:40 days per year pro-rata (incl. bank holidays)
