The University of Liverpool Particle Physics Research group is seeking to appoint a particle physicist/ computing infrastructure expert to support the operation and development of our extensive computing infrastructure and to contribute to our exciting particle physics research programme.


You will work as part of a team of two experts to maintain the computing infrastructure of the Liverpool Particle Physics Research cluster and to contribute to the future upgrades and replacements.

The role also includes the provision of support to the research cluster of approximately 140 staff and PhD students who use the computing infrastructure.


The infrastructure supported by the team includes:

several large data storage systems; interactive and batch computing nodes; and several virtual machines running specific software stacks and managing the network in a dedicated cluster room.

Familiarity with scientific computing and with Linux based computing clusters and the software and hardware infrastructure used to support these will be required and effective coordination with other staff members to manage the service will be needed.

You would also contribute to the development of the GridPP national network, and in particular the operation of the Liverpool based Tier-2 GridPP facility.


Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.

Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.

This post is available on a fixed term basis until September 2025.
