Chesterfield Royal Hospital - Derbyshire Pathology.

Phlebotomist Part-Time 24 hours a week (Band 2)

(Flexibility to do morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts on a rota basis is required).


This is an interesting and diverse role in a key supportive service within the Trust, with a focus on providing the best patient care.

Integration with the wider clinical teams on a daily basis is a large part of the role, and means no two days are the same You will be a team-worker, but have the ability to work independently.

You will be educated to GCSE/O level standard at grade C or above or equivalent.

The ability to communicate at all levels and have experience of dealing with people is an essential requirement for the post.

Previous health care experience and knowledge of Phlebotomy would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be given.

You will also be adaptable and reliable with the ability to work on your own in a busy environment once fully trained.

You will have good manual dexterity due to the nature of the post and possess a positive, friendly and compassionate attitude towards patients and colleagues.

A full clean driving licence is essential with access to your own vehicle.

  • Taking blood samples from adults by venepuncture and from children and neonates by finger and heel prick once fully trained an competent.
  • Working in clinical areas, including wards, clinics, Emergency Department and Community settings across Derbyshire liaising with colleagues to ensure the needs of the service are met.
  • Working flexibly on a rota's basis as part of the wider phlebotomy team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Friendly and compassionate manner, with an understanding of dignity and respect for patients and colleagues.
  • Stock management of phlebotomy consumables.
  • Adherence to Health and Safety guidelines
