Cover Support


Role:

To work as part of the Learning and Teaching Team in supporting cover lessons of classes across the school (Key Stage 1-5).


Line Manager:
Mrs Jane Hughes (Main Reception)


Work in partnership with:
Staff, pupils and parents


Contract 35 Hours per week, worked between the hours of term time only - 36 weeks a year.

Holidays 4 weeks and 8 bank holidays

Pay £20,319 pro rata equivalent to £15,774.78 SS2 Scale (£10.58 an hour)

Introduction


Under the reasonable direction of the Principal, carry out the professional duties of a Learning Support Assistant as set out in the School's contract and Education Workforce Council Professional Standards Document.

To support and maintain the high standards of pupil attainment and achievement; and monitor and support pupil progress.


Duties and Responsibilities:


To work under the guidance of Kings Monkton Teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement work programmes with individuals/groups in or out of the classroom including the supervision of whole classes during the short term absence of teachers.


Cover Supervision - Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the pupils on work left in accordance with the school policy
  • Assisting in preparing the learning environment and the materials used therein
  • Assisting with the management of pupil behaviour to ensure a constructive working environment
  • Responding to pupils about the work that has been set
  • Collecting any work completed after the lesson and returning it to an agreed person/place
  • Leaving the room in good order at the end of the lesson
  • Supervising entry and departure of pupils in accordance with school policy
  • Recording and reporting attendance at lessons in accordance with school policy
  • Assisting in exam invigilation under the supervision of the examinations officer.
  • Reporting back as appropriate using the schools' agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class and any other issue arising.
  • Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the schools' policies and procedures.
  • Following school policies and procedures especially those relating to child protection and health and safety
  • Respecting confidential issues linked to home/students/teacher/school work and to keep confidences as appropriate
  • Provide pastoral support to pupils
  • Receive and supervise pupils excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable
  • Participate in comprehensive assessment of pupils to determine those in need of particular help
  • Assist the teacher with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour/Support/Mentoring plans
  • Support provision for pupils with special needs
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model
  • Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils
  • Promote the speedy/effective transfer of pupils across phases/integration of those who have been absent
  • Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance
  • Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce selfesteem
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance etc.
