Trainee Specialist Clinical Physiologist, Clinical Neurophysiology

Salary Scale:
£27,660 (60% in year 1) - £34,575 (75% in Year 4)

1 x WTE post : 37.5 hrs per week

An opportunity has arisen to contribute to the development of the Regional Neurophysiology at Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN) & Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP), Little France, Edinburgh.

The trainee, once qualified will continue in a substantive post on full salary.

Dimensions of the post

The Area Service provides a broad range of Neurophysiological investigations on adults and paediatrics including:

  • Routine and Drug activation EEG recordings.
  • Portable EEG service i.e. SCBU, ITU.
  • Train / perform Video EEG Telemetry.
  • 24 Hour Ambulatory EEG/ Home Video EEG Telemetry
  • Evoked Potentials
  • Assist in Corticography.
  • Assist in Cortical mapping and epilepsy surgery monitoring.
  • Physiologist led NCV clinics.

The post holder will be trained to:

  • Plan, perform and interpret a range of specialist procedures.
  • Participate in the day/day running service including troubleshooting.
  • Support the team in specific areas of work.

Requirements of the Post:


  • Entry requirements for GCU requires a minimum of 3 Highers at BBC or 4 Highers at BCCC /Alevel at minimum DDD
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Confident, calm and open to taking direction, particularly in stressful situations.
Previous degree in a science related discipline is desirable but not an essential requirement.

The Service operates a family friendly flexible working approach, however once trained the ability to offer this flexibility will need to be balanced against the departmental commitment to some longer days /evening work
