Project Worker - Part Time

Blackheath, Colchester

£11.49

21 or 30 hours per week - Mixed shifts to cover Monday to Sunday, either 8am - 4pm or 2pm - 10pm

We are seeking an experienced Project Worker with a passion for supporting people to join our Colchester Homelessness service at Blackheath.


Colchester Homelessness Supported Housing supports vulnerable adults with complex needs who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness, encouraging them to obtain the life skills necessary to move on to more independent living.


We provide a comprehensive induction programme as well as on-going training to develop new and existing skills and encourage progression.

Sanctuary has their own Learning and Development Academy, who provide a wide range of training courses, open to all.

The role of Project Worker will include:

  • Regularly assessing the needs of clients by writing and updating support plans, and signposting access to education, training and employment
  • Supporting clients in their day to day living i.e. with cooking and cleaning
  • Offering advice in relation to fulfilling tenancy conditions
  • Assisting clients with managing finances and welfare benefits
  • Encouraging social inclusion and helping clients to build their confidence, resilience and selfesteem
  • Working with statutory and nonstatutory agencies on behalf of the clients and actively encouraging choice and involvement, or acting as an advocate when required
  • Promoting safe working practices by undertaking risk assessments within legislative frameworks

Skills and experiences:


  • Previous experience of working with vulnerable people
  • A sound knowledge of housing management including voids and arrears management, and an understanding of occupancy agreements
  • Experience and knowledge with housing tenancy law, housing benefit reform and rents and/or income
  • The ability to work on your own initiative and react effectively under pressure
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel or similar
