As the Channel Editor, Home Improvement, for Saga Exceptional, you will propose, write, commission and edit original and inventive DIY and renovation content for our exciting new site, working closely with our Homes Editor in Chief and managing our Home Improvements Writer.


Day-to-day, you'll be generating and updating timely DIY and renovation content, from the inspirational and aspirational to more practical how-to and tips features, as well as easily digestible buying guides, informative how to articles, in-depth explainers and best-in-class reviews to help our audience effortlessly improve and maintain the fabric of their homes.

Every article should be written with the experienced Saga audience in mind - addressing their passions, curiosities and needs.

You'll have first-rate SEO skills, a sound understanding of keyword strategy, and know how to incorporate the required E-E-A-T signals into top-quality content.


We're looking for a Channel Editor with an address book bursting with industry and PR contacts, which we'd expect you to grow and maintain by representing Saga Exceptional at key events, launches, meetings, briefings, and trade shows both nationally and internationally.


This is an exciting role for an established journalist with a passion for renovation to join a new site at its conception.

You'll be coming in on the ground floor, helping us build Saga Home into the leading site in its market for the over 50s.

Main Responsibilities

  • Managing and developing the skills of our Home Improvement Writer, and liaising with and commissioning expert freelancers
  • Formulating, commissioning, writing, editing and updating news, features, buying guides and reviews
  • Uploading and publishing content in our CMS
  • Working closely with our Home Improvement Writer to identify trending terms and timely content, by using Google Trends and other tools, and by watching property renovation shows, listening to podcasts and following leading names in DIY.
  • Developing a firm understanding of SEO and eCommerce, optimizing all articles, and ensuring they cover expertise, authority, and trust guidelines.
  • Nurturing relationships with key industry insiders including DIY and tool brands, PRs, architects and expert tradespeople
  • Sharing articles on various Saga social channels
  • An outstanding content creator, you'll deliver topflight content on a consistent basis
  • A great communicator who enjoys collaborating with others and nurturing talent
  • An eye for style you'll understand what makes a great image and what makes a good story for our DIYsavvy audience
  • Willingness to travel to events around the UK
  • A passion for delivering exceptional experiences everyday to the Saga audience
  • At least two years' experience writing high quality, engaging online content in the renovation and DIY sector
  • Interest in, and knowledge of home improvements
  • A strong grasp of SEO principles and eCommerce, with a desire to develop knowledge further
  • An impressive contacts book filled with DIY and tool brands, experts, and freelance writers with strong renovation expertise
